Not at all Jet. I didn't start using spices and flavours for quite a while. All my life I've cooked very plainly and it was only when I got a bit bored with PP'ing, that I saw how much fun we can have with flavours.
I've even become more experimental (for me!) since knowing Vicky... her marinades have really livened up my taste buds...
Perhaps just try a little and see how you get on? It's certainly not obligatory and if you prefer plain food, then why not! (Just that I didn't really prefer it, but had to find a substitute for cooking with wine, cream, cheese, etc!!!)...
