We lost our gorgeous cat Noddy about 8 weeks ago, but last sunday we welcomed our new baby in to our home. We have a very petite (2.2kgs) 20 month old all black little girly cat. She is called Jean! lol. love her loads already, and she hasnt even been here a week. We got her from a rescue centre, i also feel strongly about rescuing animals :)

Aw, what a pretty girl! And Noddy looks like he was such a cutey in his bag x We lost our little boy kitty a month or so before we had our guys from the shelter so I know how hard it is :( Our little Mister was a black and white crazy too - we still miss him so much even now after three years but now we remember him with smiles rather than tears.

Kevin is lovely <3 I do love ginger cats but I definitely believe that cats pick you and that's how we ended up with two black cats ;) We only actually wanted one cat but then Bert climbed nearly six foot up a wire fence to bash my husband on the nose so we couldn't leave him behind!

How I agree with you. If anyone has looked at my animal family they will know we have sch a variety of animals but of them all the cats are the most aloof . They own you not the other way round.
We now have 3 different catsthat I haven't posted photos of yet. We have Blackcat, who is the mummy cat and Hello and Kitty who are her black son and her black tortoiseshell daughter.

Blackcat was our neighbours cat. They are o.k. people but like so many Spaniards have a very different attitude to animals. Blackcat had about 6 litters of kittens whilst she lived with them. They killed them all. When she had Hello and Kitty she decided enough was enough and after having them she brought them in through our kitchen window. I had been feeding her cos she was short of food. I magine how desperate she must have been to ring them into a household that had 7 dogs. The poor little mite must have been at the end of her tether.
We bought her a huge basket which is in a corner on the kitchen unit and strangeley the dogs are amazing with them all. The kitties are now 18 months old, they have all been sterilised, mum as well and she still washes them from head to foot as if they were babies. It is fantastic to see such a happy and healthy family who have fitted in so well.

I told my neighbours that we had her and her 2 kittens and that we were having all three sterilised. They were o.k. about it but shocked me to the core when they said " she had 3 kittens, but our dogs ate one !!!!)" as if it was a normal , everyday occurance.

Anyway all is well that ends well and they are such a happy and tight unit and when our house is sold they too will live in England with us.

We have also fed a" bin" cat for 5 years. We have never missed a day, not one day in five years. We had her sterilised by a local vet who was operating on feral cats free of charge, so she didn't suffer litter after litter of kittens dragging her down. She lived so comfortably were she was we felt it would be cruel to move her from an enviroment she was very happy in. One day about 3 weeks ago she dissapeared. I feel sure someone has taken her and given her a home. We just wish we knew. I like to imagine her living as a beloved housecat and at last having real comfort in her life.

Like you Missy, I wish more people would adopt animals that would otherwise never know what a loving home is. Even 2 of our goats are rescue goats, abandoned by their previous owners. All our dogs have a story especially little Luna the German Pincher who was dumped in the street at 6 months old when they went to live in another country. Poor little mite.

How could anyone have abandoned her !!!

the rest of them are here.............................http://www.minimins.com/34535-fillym...-family-i.html

It shocks me to the core that people can be so cruel to animals.
I'm sure if I wasn't with my husband I would have rescued many cats and dogs, he's really sensible and practical about ow many animals we have whereas I'm a real softie and want to rescue them all!!
My pups are snuggled up in front of the radiator bless them :)

Here's my little animal family, all by the radiator :) <3

Technically she's mine however since I moved to uni and my parents lost their dog they've adopted her. As me and my sister have both flown the nest she is now my parents baby and we are basically her human slaves. She's knows exactly how to get what she wants!

I help run a greyhound and lurcher rescue so guess what I have at home - yup - 2 greyhounds and 2 lurchers. All rescues with sad tales to tell. Loved and spoilt to bits now though :grouphugg:

Ahhh love Ren! I am biased towards black cats though ;)

It is so nice to see so many of adopting/rescuing animals - warms my heart <3

Wow, what a lovely thing to do <3 I love greyhounds and they are so often mistreated :(

We used to have a greyhound. Lovely dogs that will give you all the love in the world. Sadly ours died suddenly in the night when she was only 8. I got a whippet because they do slightly better with living on a narrowboat!

It is like the Podenco's here. They are used for hunting and so many are so illtreated it is heartbreaking.

The more callous owners just abandom them where they have been hunting if they think they are not good enough for the job. Others turn them out in the street.Alot who keep them until the end of the hunting season keep them hungry as in their ignorance they think it will make them better hunters.

They look a lot like greyhounds/lurchers and suffer as much if not more than some of them do.

One year we did a charity function here at the house to help illtreated greyhounds in Spain. The support we got was amazing and we raised a huge amount of money.

This is one little Podenco that I hope has a good home now................don't read it if you are like me and easily moved to tears. I can hardly see the keyboard.

El Refugio-Escuela in Sevilla have, amongst their many abandoned animals, a sweet Podenca that is desperate for a loving home. This is my translation of what they have written about her:
“We are hoping that these photos will bring a new life for Shadow. A different life where there is no pain, no blows, no fear nor loneliness.

What a beautiful dog you are Shadow. It is wonderful to see you growing in confidence and start to trust, waiting for a cuddle instead of a heavy hand. How sweet you are with your curious eyes discovering the world that lies beyond the cage that you are used to. You are learning to feel the love of an embrace or a whispered word.
Our sweet little red-haired Podenca!
We cannot find the words to describe Shadow. We wish that you could get to know her, to see her sad, submissive scared eyes and hug her small, fragile and frightened body. She must have suffered cruel beatings in the past.
There must be someone out there with a desire to love, caress and pamper her, surely. ”
Shadow is an Andalucian Podenca so fairly small in size. She is approximately three years of age, she is sterilised and ready for adoption. If you can offer her a home please get in touch with the refuge.

Oooh dear, you were right about the tears.....please say they found her a loving home?
Why are the Spaniards allowed to treat their animals this way, are there no laws against this like we have in this country? I know we're a load of daft animal lovers but surely its the same in Europe? Saying that, the RSPCA here have a tough time with cruel, despicable people.......it couldn't be said on a public forum like this what I would do if I got hold of any of these people!

Yup there are laws here too but first of all you have to have the right people to enforce them.

As far as they are concerned here animals have no soul so therefore feel no pain............CRAP!!!!!

Loving this thread......we have a 2 year old border terrier and a 5 month old Lurcher :)

I remember when we had a lurcher and our neighbour had a border. If there was food around you had to keep them apart because they were both food obsessed and the border would go for the lurcher's ankles and the lurcher the borders neck.

Border terriers are the most amazing dogs ever!! I love them and if I could I would have a dozen of them!!!
