I completely agree with Josiecat (apart from the the sharing the chocolate bar with my hubby haha).
I am willing to guess you have been a yoyo dieter for a while and you totally restrict yourself on a diet (am guessing because you say the day before you have a complete binge).
I dont see slimming world as a diet, for me i have done it so long that i just do it regardless - some of the little changes you do (such as dry fry or fry with fry light save a lot of syns (and basically calories).
You do need to have a little bit of what you fancy though as well. For me I am a chocolate girl (or a wine girl but pregnant so cant indulge there).
Dont get me wrong, I still eat badly some times (yesterday I ate an entire box of chocolates bar the 3 i had the day before). However breakfast lunch and dinner were all good.
My advice is plan your weekly meals but plan your syns as well and do it so you dont feel like your on a diet.
Breakfast ideas - normally cereal (2 weetabix for me) and milk, and if i am hungry some fruit. Thats my healthy extra gone.
fruit and a yoghurt
weekend breakfast ideas -
Slimming World cooked breakfast - bacon, dry fry egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans (if u fancy it) and a slice of toast. no marg for me as i think the juice from the tomatoes means i dont need it.
omlette - i made a potato one the other morning (
Lunch ideas - well I work from home so its easier for me but I like:
Stir fry with noodles or rice (i use frozen stir fry veg and frozen chicken pieces to make a portion for 1). I keep soy sauce (free) and sweet chilli sauce (low syns) in the cupboard depending on what i fancy
If you are at work you can buy an uncle bens rice time (the sweet and sour one is free and the cantonese one is only half syn). You could also take a little pot of stir fry cooked veg with you and reheat and add to it.
Pasta with either tomato based sauce (home made)
Pasta with a bit of salad type veg in and fat free dressing.
cous cous salad (home made) with cherry toms, chick peas, cucumber, spring onions and lemon juice.
you can use the packet of cous cous but not free any more.
chips with egg and peas (ok not free without ur veg but you can add to it).
jacket potato with beans (you could take one with you and reheat or left over chilli) -i would have the fat free cottage cheese as think its horrid but a lot of ppl seem to like it!
in summer a nice salad is ok (but am not a lover of salad and it cant be that lettuce, tomatoe and cucumber rubbish haha)
Dinners -
well i have anything really and i adapt it to slimming world so my favourites are:
spag bol
chilli con carne
roast dinner with veg (gravy is syns and i dont tend to get yorkshire pudding)
fish, slimming world chips and peas
steak and chips with salad and veg
salmon with veg
stir fry (chicken, beef or prawns) - with veg and noodles or rice and an uncle bens small sauce packet that serves 2. they vary in syns black bean i think is 3 (shezuan or however its spelt isnt much more)
home made curry (either beef or chicken)
as you can tell my meals dont look diet like and i eat plenty and i am normally content. I dont feel restricted by a diet because i am not. if we have a bbq my plate looks like the others but i might have more lean meats (not have a sausage or just take one) and maybe i would make a low syn pasta salad or potato salad (or even a slimming world corination chicken recipe)
so next part is where do you want treats -
if its chocolate then get yourself chocolate treats but if you are a person who cant keep them in the house without wanting the whole packet then just get one at a time from the shop.
look at it as 20 calories equals 1 syn for a bar of chocolate.
Cream eggs are just under 180 calories (so thats 9 syns). I think they are worth it but others might prefer a 2 finger kit kat (5.5 syns)
If you like cream eggs dont buy a pack of 6, i actually once ate 5 in one day (it was a bad day and i was stressed)!
some people like crisps (i am not a big crisp fan but occaisionally fancy them) - go for some light ones like french fries (again, 1 syn is 20 calories)
Others like cakes and biscuits - personally i think dont bother with biscuits. if you dip it in your coffee it evaporates and you cant have 1. have a kit kat 2 finger at the 5.5 syn, and dip that in your coffee.... the choc melts (delicious).
Now if you like your wine (or other drinks) compare things... e.g. would you rather have a large glass of wine or a cream egg. Hmm thats a tricky one as i like both. But if its a large glass of wine or 2 biscuits i know i wount touch the biscuit.
My hubby smoothers his food in ketchup and i say (you could have a gin for the amount of syns in that ketchup). and when you fancy an extra slice of toast (go with 20 cals for 1 syn rule again when its extra) and consider the marg calories and add together. well you might as well have an extra kit kat, a cream egg or have a drink later for that.....
Anyway, hope this all helps but the most important thing is ENJOY WHAT YOU EAT.
If you dont you end up stuffing it in (like me with the chocolates yesterday) and it doesnt touch the sides and you feel totally annoyed with yourself. Normally if i eat some i really allow myself to enjoy it.
If you want more than the 15 syns a day allow yourself it. yes you might not lose weight but by controlling your other meals you will start to relax more around food and enjoy it more.
also if you give yourself proper meals for each lunch and dinner its so funny to see other peoples attitude to the "i thought you were on a diet".... and when they see that your losing weight whilst seemingly eating normal food its brilliant.
you can do it, just enjoy it
ps - i forgot to add some ppl use there syns in food (i probs use less than 4 a day in food and thats only if i am having something like stir fry uncle bens sauce or tomato sauce when having fish, chips and peas) or sometimes marg on toast. i find using syns on food a waste when you can usually do it for free and save the syns for what i call proper treats haha
