protein shakes?

A protein shake is neither an equivalent to, nor an alternative for, Cambridge

Read the research and you will see why the medical aspect of Cambridge is so vitally important.

A protein shake is neither an equivalent to Cambridge [snip]

Exactly, but it doesn't mean that protein shakes cannot be used for weightloss either.

And I disagree, equivalent means something that's interchangable, alternative means something that's different. So protein shakes may be able to be used for weight loss instead of the Cambridge Diet, just like for example Weight Watchers may be used for weightloss instead of the Cambridge Diet. They are both alternative, but not equivalent, weight loss methods.

And as I said before, just because Cambridge is proven to be safe, doesn't mean other methods are proven to be unsafe. Not equivalent to Cambridge for sure, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll drop dead if you dare to follow a diet other than Cambridge.

Just my opinion, I obviously follow the Cambridge Diet, but I don't think we need to get all scare mongering about other weight loss methods.

omg

reading this thread has made me feel physically sick. it is like being in the playground. look chuckie if you cant afford it for 2 weeks then you do whats best 4 u hun...protein shakes i think sounds like a good idea much better than eating all the things you should not, it cant hurt or why would the shakes be available, i can understand what stbg is saying as well but not everyone can afford to do this diet all the time so you do what you can and good luck.

STBG,
How do you know that any alternative to Cambridge is 'dangerous'?? Where are your facts? All you do is refer us to the Cambridge book. Do you bring some specialist knowledge of nutrition and other weight loss methods to this debate?

You dismissed Idaj's replies as 'nonsense' - I thought her replies were thoughtful, considered and intelligent. She was also polite and gracious in the face of your responses. Just because you have been 'converted' to Cambridge, it doesn't mean that no-one else has the right to discuss or consider any other alternative. Whatever happened to freedom of speech and democracy? Adults in their right minds should be allowed to decide for themselves whether something is dangerous or not, and whether or not they will do it. As I said before, it seems that no-one is allowed to think for themselves any more. Frankly I find it depressing and pointless if we're all to be reduced to spouting some 'official party line' or say nothing at all.

And for the record, I am a Cambridge dieter.

Protein shakes can be used alongside a healthy sensible diet. I think where things could go pear shaped is when they are used to substitute a CD pack when following a CD plan if that makes sense.

When the nutritionist wrote the CD eating plans the meals were based on the client having two CD packs.

I'm neither a counsellor or on any diet. I know Cambridge to be good stuff, but protein shakes can be useful too :)

I wouldn't know the ins and outs of whether a protein shake is a good alternative to Cambridge or not in the long term. Personally, the fact that it's only 2 weeks (if an extreme emergency), might make me give it a go if I had too. Definitely not long term though.

But please folks, can we have a bit of calm. I've had a very hectic day and a bit of Kum Ba Yah in a circle wouldn't go amiss :D

Peace, love, fellowship and respect to all.

Im smiling and want Kum Ba Yah to all, lets have nice lovely discussions, and peace to everyone!

Takeaways, to a child in a highchair. what is this world coming to!!!!My daughters has never tasted a take away (coz Im skint lol!!)

i think possibly that people are commenting from two different stands without realising it. No one anywhere has said that what chuckie was asking about WAS an alternative or equivalent to CD. So both are right but STBG is making a strong stand for CD - quite rightly but it doesn't seem like it was needed here. I understand exactly where you are coming from and do the same myself re. the water issue when it comes up (that it needs to be stressed that it is quantity within timeframe not just quantity that makes it "too much" water).

But if you read the posts again STBG - we were only informing her that there is nothing unsafe about what she is planning (goodness - certainly safer than chips and pies and nothing else everyday ... did anyone see that TV programme that was on the other day .. not sure which - may have been wife swap ... where one family fed their child TAKEAWAYS OMG!!!!!! she was in a high chair and that is ALL her diet consisted of) ... Anyway, I digress.

Everyone smiling and on the same page???

Nicely put

I always look at things through my CD eyeballs as safety and health is always paramount.

Sorry after 20 years of counselling I am a mother hen if I think someone may do something that could possibly make them unwell I try to give best advice.

I try to be as balanced as possible.

I stopped posting on this thread a while back now, but I'd just like to send happy thoughts to everyone, and I hope everyone has a lovely evening/night. :)

I think it can only be a good thing that people look after each other and try to ensure that people don't go on ill-advised diets. :)

*hands out calorie-free biscuits to all*

Take care all, love Ida xx

And you idaj:)

After all the faddy diets I have heard of over the past god knows how many years, I think its fab that people can ask for information and advice on here,

But just wanted to say its just people opinions and in the end you have to decide whats right for you !

There are some very dangerous "diets" out there so please be aware and sensible as most of us are , and we all want to achieve the same thing,
minimins is not about attacking people.

Can we feel the love in the room yet xx

I've just got home and read all this. I think i've got a headache but on a slightly lighter note and words 'Kum Bah Ya' bought back happy memories. Wasn't that one of the assembly greats with actions or was that 'Wide, Wide As The Ocean'

Happy thoughts People.

im a bad mummy here, my childs currently shoving chocolate buttons in her mouth like theres no tommorrow and shes already had crisps but she did have meat and veg for tea even though it had a protien powder and a fat/ carb powder mixed in to it

Wasn't that one of the assembly greats with actions or was that 'Wide, Wide As The Ocean'

Think it was wide, wide as the ocean :D

Wide, wide as the ocean,
High as the Heavens above,
Deep, deep as the deepest sea
Is my Saviour's love:
I, though so unworthy,
Still am a child of His care
For His Word teaches me that
His love reaches me everywhere.

I used to love that one:) Not as much as 'The Wise Man Built' though;)

Actually....amazed I can still remember the words. Don't think I've sung it in 40 years:eek:
