Purpose of the Teams??????????

Hiya,

Just wanted to ask what's the purpose behind the individual teams?

Is it a competition between us all or what?

Sorry if its a daft question just never been on to catch up properly for ages and suddenly there is loads of teams, dont get me wrong I think its a Fab idea as it will spur everyone one,
