Question about bars.....????

#2
2 bars a day, me ;) They haven't slowed weight loss dramatically I don't think - I nibble them throughout the day (which also might take away any danger of wind which i believe is a side effect of more than one bar a day). I would rather have a bar which might last me a few hours than a shake I have to derink in 15 minutes or before the chill wears off

I am only on day 13 so dont really know. I plan to have a bar a day though as soon as I get some more so would be interesting to see other replys. The porridge I cant stomach, the soups are getting nastier by the day...the shakes I can just about abide, the bars are not very nice but taste ok compared to the others so havent got mcuh choice!

I've just started week 6 and have started on the bars last week. Only lost 1lb this week, but think it may be because I haven't drank enough in the hot weather. They are so delicious. My CDC says they shouldn't affect weight loss.

I don't think the bars slow down weight loss significantly. I stayed the same last week but I think that was more to do with retaining water in the hot weather. This week so far (I weigh in on Saturday) I appear to have lost 5lbs and it's been much cooler.
I have a bar a day and love them all!

I found when I had the bars they did slow my weightloss down, but I didn't know this until I had eaten one a day for a week, then went without for a week and there was a significant difference, have only just started eating them again now as I am moving up the plans. I think my problem was that I have a very low carb tolerance, so they knocked me straight out of ketosis due to the higher carb content... now I am eating carbs as on 1000 plan, and only having 3 a week they are not making a significant difference.

Hi Linda, that's what worries me as I also have a low carb tolerance. The problem is that I have started a new job and they don't have a kitchen/fridge so I take a tetra in but by lunch time it's warm :( so was thinking the bars would be better. Maybe I'll try one a day this next week and if it shows on the scale cut back again to 3 a week!

Thanks for all the replies, I LOVE this forum :) xx

The only way to know for sure is to try, so worth giving it a week, I did still lost a couple of lb just not as much as I had before and after.... good luck.

Hi, I was worried about so I started on a couple a week and they had no effect on losses so went up to 7 a week and I am still losing 4-6lb a week. As Greeneyes says the only way of knowing is to give them a try but don't only take one weeks results into consideration try them for at least 2 weeks for a fair trial. Zoe xx

I've had bars from day 1 and usually have 1 a day, though yesterday I had 2. I have found my losses were still pretty good. But I think it depends on the individual. I'm really tempted to just have 2 a day because I don't end up wanting to make shakes or soups anymore!

I always find the answers to this question interesting.

In theory at least, it's impossible that having a bar every day would significantly affect weight loss. Having one adds something like 30 calories to your day's allowance - so inconsequential as to make no difference whatsoever.

But people do say that having one a day slows weight loss down. In part, I suspect that this is because people start having them in week 3 when weight loss slows down anyway.

It could also have something to do with tolerance to carbs, as someone's already said. But being in ketosis doesn't speed up the rate of weight loss. If you slip out of ketosis, you might retain water, I s'pose - but you'd shed that in time.

The other thing I've noticed is that if you are one of the unlucky individuals who is very sensitive to carbs you might be more likely to go off plan and have things you shouldn't be eating (because you get hungry if you slip out of ketosis). It's usually that slipping off plan thing that makes the difference to weight loss, not eating the bars themselves...

Alternatively, there's another reason that no one's quite bottomed out yet.

All I can suggest is that you try it and see. Having bars certainly does make the diet more interesting and they make a nice portable alternative to tetras.

Well CD does say week 3 and only 1 a day, so I'm sure there's a good reason behind it. I'm still tempted to just have 2 a day anyway!

I didn't start having the bars until around 5 or 6th week.... and during my 15 weeks on this diet I haven't once eaten off plan until recently when I have been moving up the plans, I was always 100%, not one single blip... was just very carb intolerant, possibly because I was eating less than 20g carb a day before I started the diet and then once I started the diet my carbs more than doubled... the choc bars are also twice as many carbs as a shake, so this didn't help me... I also found that the bars didn't fill me up as much as the shakes did anyway, so didn't miss them too much. Luckily my weight caught up and I still managed to lose more than 3 stone in 3 months...

Very interesting thread. I hadn't realised that the bars could make a difference at all. Coincidentally, I've always fared better on shakes alone. I didn't think the bars were to blame for my diet faltering but maybe they were a little.
Either way, I'll stick to shakes/soups and tetras for the first few weeks anway unless in an emergency!
Thanks guys!

I only tend to have a couple of bars a week as a bit of a change as although I really love them, they don't like me much and give me terrible wind:eek:

JustJen - I don't like the chocolate and the chocolate orange! If you haven't, try the toffee malt as it's really lovely straight from the fridge!!

I got weighed on Tuesday after starting the bars 2 weeks ago and only losing 1lb in that week.. Think it was the hot weather, though. Continued on them this week and lost 8lb plus inches. I just find them easier when I'm on the move or on the drive to work.
