Restarting Again -In need of support

Discussion in 'Strugglers and Restarters' started by Forever Starting Over, 25 August 2014.

  1. Hi all. It's been a while since I have posted or regularly used the support here. I first signed up here following a divorce over 7 years ago, lost the weight, changed my lifestyle and managed to keep it off until 2012 when things slowly started creeping back up and my lifestyle changed. What can I say..I met a man who came in to my life and who I am now married to. Unfortunately dating and being with someone and living with them has meant all the hard work has been reversed. Eating together at home and eating out has led to weight gain. Getting too comfortable and being less active. I am sure you have heard it all before and for some of you, may sound very familiar. I have also recently miscarried and although was just under 3 months pregnant have managed to put on half a stone during the miscarriage which came with complications in itself. So as none of my clothes fit and I have gone from a small size 14 (probably would have fit in to a size 12 but preferred the comfort of a size 14) to a large size 18, enough is enough. Or should I say that's how I feel now until I fall to the comfort of food. I have not decided which diet I am going to follow but I am considering signing up to weight watcher meetings. I have some exante shakes leftover from a previous attempt so will probably start using them and then may just stick to calorie counting or weight watchers. If anyone else is wanting to buddy up with regular posts then they would be welcomed. Will continue posting and will aim to post daily. Let's see how week one progresses.

I could certainly do with a buddy, plan in starting loosely over the next couple of days and more seriously in the coming weeks.
  3. Hi rhubarb cakes. Thanks for the reply and would be good to buddy up. I have made it through day 1 of simply making better choices and watching what and how much I eat. No exercise but small steps. Are you going to follow a particular diet? I am aiming for a pound a week minimum. Let's see...

I'd like to cc with exercise. What are you following?
  5. Just calorie counting at present and hope to start introducing exercise in the next couple weeks. I am aiming to lose a stone and a half by Christmas. The other aim is to log in to minimins once a day to remind me of my aim and to gain support and motivation. Thinking of signing up to a weekly weightwatchers class but I am still off work until next week because of the miscarriage so only just starting to get some normality back in to life. Will probably join when back at work and also aiming to get back into the gym in the next couple of weeks too. Do you know how much you want to lose? If there is anyone else that is restarting and wanting to post weekly losses then please post here. I think I will post weigh ins on Mondays. Xoxo

I read your post and just wanted to wish you so well. It's so hard to get started when you've been through it before, especially when it's been quite a few times of starting, achieving and then watching all that effort get consumed again. I've been there and I'm not a success by any means. I've probably lost and gained 10 stone over the last few years and it's affected every bit of my life. I am joining SW tomorrow night and I know that there is a voice in my head that says 'why bother?' because I know I've been here before and it's changed nothing in the end. But starting over is a brave this to do - to know that this time, you've got so far to go and so much to prove, to yourself more than to anyone else. Self reflection is a good thing - look at why and how you start to go wrong and start to give in and see how you can stop that from repeating itself again. Come on here. write a post, instead of getting some food, or get a playlist on your iPod of motivational speeches and walk around for an hour listening to them. Find what works in those moments and try - that's all you can do, try. But just remember you are not alone and people here will help and support. So many of us know how you feel - you are not alone in this. This time 2 years ago, I'd just lost 5 stone, come back from Paris, completed my first triathlon, was in Size 16 clothes (almost 14) and was happier, healthier and more confident than ever. Now I've regained all that weight, get out of breath walking up stairs, struggled to fasten a Size 22 pair of pants a few days ago and would hide away rather than go somewhere like Paris. Life is so different now to what it was. And in the process I have lost or damaged things and possibilities that meant so much to me. I'm here if you need me lovely. x
  7. Aww zendognine.._i can relate to everything you have written and will keep an eye out for your posts. Well done on signing up to slimming world. I attended 1 slimming world class and got very confused so didn't continue. I have looked up weight watchers meetings and hoping to sign up. Also hubby got my bike out and gave it a good checking over re tyres and gears etc as it has been collecting dust for just under 2 years so that's good to go. It's just me that needs to start. I return to work in a few days which I am dreading as will be very overwhelming as been off nearly 3 months. The diet hasn't gone well this week but I have decided to be kind to myself as this is my first TOTM since finishing the miscarriage. I am happy as means body is restoring itself finally. I have also been very hormonal so the floodgates have been open. Here's hoping we can all achieve what we desire and be healthy again. You had amazing results and you will get them again. I have been here before too and I just want to be bmi 27 or 26 as although still overweight I could do anything and didn't feel self conscious etc. I look forward to reading more about your journey. We can do it! Xoxo
  8. Couldn't weigh in yesterday as ended up at the hospital. Have weighed in this morning at 14st 9 1/4 lbs. It's a start I guess. Now if I can lose at least a pound every week I will get there. Hope everyone is having a good day xoxo

Hi, I am new to this site but I can relate to a lot of what has been said on this thread. I am disabled by arthritis and fibromyalgia and am very immobile to the point of being housebound when alone. I was 20.2 at my largest and as I am not able to exercise I have learned that the only route that works for me is by VLCDs. I went down to 11.8 with Lighterlife and here I am back on the hamster wheel trying to lose the lbs that have crept back on.
I have been on SW for 5 weeks. I have given it 100% and have lost just 3lbs so I'm now back on a VLCD. This time I'm trying shake that weight. It's less than half the cost of Lighterlife and I have researched it and there are some good reviews showing good results. Fingers crossed it will work for me too. Five weeks of SW have left me feeling a bit low and like a failure. I hope that next week I can post a weight loss that is more encouraging.
  10. Hi jneedham! First of all welcome to minimins! Sorry to hear you about your pains. It's very frustrating when our bodies let us down and sometimes food will be our only comfort. I think what I struggled with slimming world was that you had to eat a food off one list and then something off another and that just didn't feel right. I have tried vlcd before just usually for a kickstart. Let me know how shake the weight goes. I have not come across it. I have some exante packs downstairs and thought they were reasonable in price but still needing food while allowing body to get back to normal. We are a similar weight too which usually helps with motivation when you buddy up. I am at the gps in an hour as don't that think I am fit to return to work tomorrow. Think need another week. Can I also say well done on not returning to your heaviest- you have managed to keep a lot of weight off which is amazing! I unfortunately am back at my heavy weight so just aiming for a pound a week unless I do the vlcd. And do not feel like a failure! You stuck to it and did lose some weight. We will get there xoxo

    Hi forever starting over.
Thats me! Forever starting over. The biggest problem that I had with SW, apart from it not working for me was the sheer quantity of food you were encouraged to eat. I was about 3 weeks into SW and did a calorie count of what I had eaten the day before and it was well over 2000! I had only used 7 syns that day. That was just last month.
That forced me to conclude that VLCD's are the only slimming plans that work for me. I think it's because they take the food factor out of the equation all together and simplify the weight loss process with just 4 packs of food a day and drinks. It's easy and efficient and once you're over the hump of the first few days whilst your body is adjusting its plain sailing. I never went a week without losing weight on lighter life, and I did Christmas on the plan too.
I am never ever going back to where I used to be. I have been there all of my life and was stupid enough to wait until I hit my 50's before doing anything about it. What a waste!
Hope it went well with the gp.
    Jayne x
  12. Hi jayne. You sound focused which is great and yes I understand what you mean about eating too much on a diet! I may be giving slimming world another go with a friend who loves it more to get me out and get weighed and also means I am not at home eating for that hour! Gp appointment went fine and I am still off a few more days and he said he would support a phased return to work so hope work will accommodate it which it sounds like they will. dont be too hard on yourself! Whether in your 50s or 30s , what matters is we want to lose! I have booked some gym sessions next week daily and because I feel nervous about going back to the gym I thought a personal trainer might help me actually turn up. Have you started the shakes? How do you feel it's going? I must admit I have been sneaking a peek on the scales and should get my pound or two off if don't ruin things this weekend. Monday's weigh in will reveal the truth! Have a good weekend. FSO xoxo

Hi FSO, A phased return sounds like a good plan. I know how you are feeling, I had 8 miscarriages over the years including my daughters twin. I now have a beautiful son who is 31 and daughter at 28 and for a bonus i have a grandson too who was 2 last week.

I started my weight loss programme last Monday (I hate the word diet) by using up some old packs. My STW packs arrived on Wednesday and I have been having them since. I am having a meal in the evening with my dh and when I got weighed this morning I have lost 9lbs in 5 days!

The shakes are absolutely delicious and really filling. I am having STW bars and porridge too and can honestly say that I'm delighted with the flavours and their ability to fill me up! X

I wish I could exercise. I would love to get my old bike out and take it round the block a couple of times but I know I can't. Even a short stroll with the dogs can have me bed bound for a few days. Stupid arthritis. Stop feeling sorry for yourself Jayne!!! Sorry about that FSO, ignore me x

Enjoy your gym sessions love, they'll all count on the scales! Even when I could exercise I never experienced the endorphin rush your supposed to get. perhaps I never exercised hard enough lol x
  14. Well done 9lbs in 5 days! Amazing. Sorry to hear about your miscarriages too. It's been an upsetting and scary 12 weeks and hope I can just get back to work later this week. I have an occupational Health appointment at work later today. The gym is at 6 tonight.
Glad to hear the shake the weight taste good and you are managing them. I will have to Google them to learn more. How long are you hoping to stay on them for? Will you introduce food at some point? What a fabulous start! Woohoo:553::party0011:
  15. Just weighed in 14 stone 7 and a quarter. That's 2lbs for this week. Hoping for 2-3 lbs next week!

Hi FSO, I have been having food too! I've had an evening meal every day with my dh. I've followed the GI diet (glycemic index) for the evening meals and it has been either meat or fish with veg. You can't have potatoes on GI so as I love mash I've been having mashed sweet potato, celeriac, carrots or swede with greens. Well done on your 2lb loss, brilliant work! X I'm hoping for 2-3 lbs next week too. I'm going to do total food replacement this week and have food again next week just to keep my body confused enough not to click on what I'm trying to do lol x good luck with your ocky health appointment. x

FSO, you asked how long I was going to stay on the programme, well, when it's done it's done! I'm hoping to be finished by Christmas though but if I'm not its not a big deal x
  18. Hi jayne. Good luck with the total meal replacement this week! I had 2 shakes and a meal yesterday. The gym session was good and managed more than I thought I would which was a bonus! Occ health were lovely and have worked out a phased return plan. I need a fit note from the gps advising phased return so I don't have to use my annual leave (from what I understand ). Will call and get clarification. Some other good new- we have had a house offer accepted so will be moving soon- fingers crossed. I am getting quite anxious over EVERYTHING! I am thinking I may need to see the gps or just hoping things calm down when I am back at work. Hope you have a good day xoxo

Moving is soooo stressful! We put our house on the market last august after being there 22 years and completed on the sale in the new year. We moved into a short term renter while we were looking for a house and have been here in our new home for 3 months. It's so nerve wracking isn't it! It's worth all the stress and worry when you open the door into your new home for the first time though.

Don't overdo it at the gym though love, you're on a VLCD and it would be so embarrassing if you keeled over lol x
  20. Hi jayne. I only did the vlcd for 1 day. Just being mindful of making better choices the rest of the time. Off to Wales for a long weekend so won't be online until next week. Gym went well and first day at work went fine too. Have a lovely weekend! Xoxo
