Extra Easy Restaurant problems!

Hey,

Having a meal out with fiancés family and finding it tough.
Have been on slimming world 10 days and going well.
Ordered plain salmon, which came with veg and potatoes! Turned out they only had gratin potatoes or chips! I had grilled salmon and a big plate of cabbage, but I'm frustrated because quite frankly I'm hungry and I've been here 3 hours already with possibly another hour to go while the others have dessert!
Just wanted to share my frustrations so I can go back feeling better! Thanks!

Laura

Be demanding. All but the cheapest two for £10 places should be able to knock you up something you can eat.

"I would like a salad with no dressing"
"I would like some boiled potatoes with no oil or butter"
"can the chef grill the chicken?"

Hey! Hope you managed to get through the rest of the night ok! I think you were unlucky - most places would offer new potatoes or a baked potato as an option. I'm rubbish at being assertive in these situations, but I agree that you have to be willing to go 'off menu' at times. Well done for sticking to your guns though, even when the options were not great.

I always look at all the potato veg options on the menu. No matter what your dish comes with if there is jacket pots on the menu there should be no reason why they can't sub whatever your meal comes with for a jacket. Or if something comes with veg ask for that with your meal cooked with no oil etc. Other than that I would ask for a large side salad instead of the chips. It does feel a bit cheeky sometimes but I have never known them say no - your paying them after all so I don't see why you should pay for something on the plate that I know I'm not going to eat. At worst you could always say your allergic to oil!!

I claim to be vegan as that gets you out of butter, cream and the cheese that seems to be a permanent addition to all vegetarian restaurant dishes. But hell yeah, if I'm paying for a meal then I make sure I get what I want lol :)

I'm in a restaurant and have just come a cropper. Thought I would be ok with a spicy bean burger everything else in the lunch menu was like shepherds pie, pizza or scampi and chips) and salad- checked syns on the go and average bean burger is 30 syns :( and this one came out slathered in mayo :( super gutted. It was yummy though. And they bought my side salad out with dressing on!!! Hey Ho, all a learning curve. No more than 5 syns for me for the next few days....

As you say, a learning curve, at least you now know where you went wrong, you wont be doing it again!

No, I definitely won't do it again. Lesson learned the hard way: syn it before you order it! There wasn't a huge amount of SW friendly choices but in hindsight the shepherds pie with crushed potato topping would probably have been a better choice. Never mind. No cake for me this weekend!

Normally I'm very able to speak up and get what I want, I didn't feel I could last night tho because it was a very fancy place and the hostess was paying for a big group and it was people I don't know! Unusual situation I suppose. I wouldn't eat the potatoes - I did ask the waiter for 6 or 7 helpings of cabbage! So that's something! I ordered a skinny hot chocolate in the restaurant and only ended up going over by a half syn!
