Are you thinking of a rice cooker?

Can get them super duper cheap in argos, they are incredible. Put your rice in, turn it on, leave and it'll cook and warm for you.
I used to put loads of things in my (housemate's rice cooker....) and just let it cook like a slow cooker lol.

I love my microwave rice cooker from Lakeland! it's a lot easier to store and you can use it for other things so it's multipurpose - the bowl is a great size for doing Pasta and Sauce or rice pudding in the microwave.

A friend of mine has one and loves to cook Persian style ( Iran ) she lived there as a young woman.
She makes the most wonderful golden, crispy edged rice. Definitley not SW friendly !!!
