Running?

for running shoes check out your local outlet store, we have a new balance one close to us (sunderland) and the running shoes are very very cheap
 
I've just bought my new pair of running shoes from a specialist shop in Birmingham. It was a bit embarrassing because I had to run on the treadmill while they videoed my legs but it was fascinating to see my gait afterwards. I could see the improvement from wearing neutral shoes to ones with a bit of stability control. It was also my right leg which was the worst and that is the knee that I've had problems with in the past. Hopefully these shoes will reduce the strain on my knees. I can get the shoes cheaper on the internet but it was worth going to have a proper gait analysis as otherwise I would have just gone for neutral shoes. They are Mizuna Wave Inspire 6 by the way.

I'm going to try them out later on today.
 
ohh! I have downloaded the c25k this morning! Have been thinking about running for ages but just need to build up the confidence to go!!!
 
I started C25K this morning - I went out and did my first run after a little encouragement from OH! Managed it all but my thighs are feeling it now! Enjoyed it though so will def be following the plan through x
 
I did my third run this afternoon and already I found it much easier than my first run. I managed to do the same route but in 5 minutes less time. I was with my son again which made me work harder. My poor son had to go on ahead after half way as he found it too difficult to jog slowly. He's only 17 and very fit. I hope to improve my speed over the next few weeks so that we can run together without causing him problems.

I'm thinking of joining my local running club to give me more motivation and I might even enter a 5k run. My son said he'd also enter with me but he's probably better off in a longer run.

My new running shoes were fabulous. They fit very snugly and the special socks I also bought helped the show fit better without any sliding. The lady in the shop also showed me how to tie my laces using the extra holes and there was no movement of the shoe on my heel. Current shoes only have a mesh on top which means your foot has lots of air. It was really weird having a draft on my toes while I was jogging.

Well done!! I'm so pleased that you are enjoying it. You may just give me the motivation to get my running groove on....
 
Thanks MrsMc. Give it a go. it's such a thorough workout and leaves you feeling quite exhilarated. Just make sure you go carefully and you should avoid injuries. I never thought I'd ever be able to jog for more than a few minutes but I can and each time I go out it gets easier which motivates me to go out again. I can't wait to go out again but I must give myself a rest day between runs. My legs still ache afterwards and I must look after them. I'm still exercising on my Wii every day with My Fitness Coach which should exercise all the muscles I don't use in jogging and still give me a bit of a cardio workout.
