Hi All,
So I read an article about improving the skins elasticity and sagging skin after rapid weight loss the other day and it had some different ideas about what causes it and possible prevention that I wanted to get your input on. If its okay I can post the link, but I wanted to be sensitive to posting an article that may or may not be Cambridge supported.
Essentially it takes a bit of a different look at what actually causes excess skin. I had always thought that when you lose a lot of weight you have extra skin because the elasticity isnt as good as it could be - which is why some individuals take the extra step to have it surgically removed. However this article actually states that people should combat excess skin by losing more weight!
The theory is that on a rapid weight loss diet, best case scenario an individual will loose 20-30% muscle mass in addition to fat loss. With water fasts its as much as 70% lean muscle loss. So really when we hit our goal weight, we still have any additional 20-30% fat but are lacking the muscle mass.
Apparently this is one of the reasons why people usually put weight on right away, its more that the muscles are repairing and rebuilding - not that you're putting on additional fat.
The article suggests a few prevention items for those in a rapid weight loss diet - 1 being toning and weight training (makes sense) and the other being having a 'refresh/break' day once a week. He suggested that taking one day a week to increase the caloric intake (within reason) will help muscles with maintenance.
Reading through the article, it makes sense. But I wanted to see what people thought about this application to CD. I know that we have quite a bit of protein intake which I assume is to help decrease lean muscle loss but do any of you feel it would be adventitious for someone on SS or SS+ to have 1 810 day per week?
Let me know if you feel it would be okay for me to post the link and I will for those who would like to actually read it.
