Savoury rice in a flask

Hi,

We're travelling down to see boyfriends parents for new years in a few days, I have some chilli which I'll make some pasta for to eat on the way down while boyfriend and son eat McDonalds, the plan was to have a salad on the way back, but I know if I've been good while we're down there I'll be tempted by the festive burger, but if I have been good while we're down there why ruin it and if I haven't why add more syns?

So I was thinking I'll have my food flask on me as I will have used it for the chilli, has anyone ever cooked savoury rice in a flask? How long do you have to leave it?

Im sure ive seen people on here or on facebook saying they've tried it... but would like confirmation lol.

if noone who has tried it gets back to this thread ill try it.anyway and let you know how it works out for me. If worse comes to thr worse it wont work and ill have to eat out but at least i would have tried.

My consultant mentioned putting dried pasta and whatever you wanted in a flask with boiling water and just leaving it and I suppose it should work no problem! Loving the idea of rice though!!

I'll be watching out for this with interest x

Well, I put the rice in with boiling water plus a little extra as suggested. I have left it for just over 1.5 hour and its ok, not brilliant. The rice was not completely soft but certainly edible plus loads of water still remaining. The water had gone luke warm so I think my flask was a bit old and crap to be honest as the water should still be hot. Need to invest in new flask I think.

Thank you for trying :) x

When I have soup in a food flask for work I put half a nest of dried noodles in the bottom pour the soup on top and by lunch time they are fully cooked and yummy.

Do not find food flask keeps things too warm Even though I bought a good one from Lakeland!
Just want to say don't bother wasting Money i definitely would not again!!lol

I only find the thermos flasks good. I've learnt the best way to keep things piping hot is to boil the kettle and fill the flask while you microwave or heat your food on the stove. I always heat the stuff twice as long so it's boiling hot then empty your flask and pour the food in.

It helps as your flask will be warm from the hot water and now your food is red hot it will keep for ages. This has always worked for me so far :) xx

My food flask was great, I do whats said above and fill it with boiling water first, but I've always done that with flasks. I thought it was just what you were suppose to do.

My pasta and chilli was gorgeous on the way down and then I tried the rice yesterday, I actually think I put too much water in, but the rice was cooked lovely, I didn't actually even leave it that long, maybe just over an hour...

the chilli was left for hours though and the flask kept it really warm

My food flask is brill, I do as above and fill it with boiling water while my food is heating up and it keeps my dinner nice and warm for a good 5 hours or so.

what kind of food flask have you got guys?
I am thinking about investing :)

The food flask I have is made by Thermos, it has a spoon in the lid which is a bit useless, it's a foldly up one which kept folding as I llifted food out of the flask, I ditched mine and take a normal spoon or fork.

You can get them in Argos or Robert Dyers. As others have said fill it with hot water for 5 mins or so first. Use mine every week day brilliant things.

:)
