I'm on day 3 and I just can't get rid of the horrible taste in my mouth despite cleaning my teeth lots! I also have a very attractive white tongue!
Is this normal? Anyone any good ideas on how to get rid of the rank taste? (being as mints aren't an option)
Just out of interest - has anyone noticed how many TV adverts involve food of some kind? Its like they're doing it on purpose! I'm not even hungry (having to force the food packs down) but I'm just lusting after the taste of something nice (anything would do at this point - shakes and soup aren't really doing it for me)

Hiya

Water is the key to keeping the breath at bay, also get a good tongue scrubbing brush and use that. The taste in your mouth is the ketones which is the byproduct of fat burning, you can either breathe them out or wee them out and hence if you glug the old water it will mean more wee and less breath!!

And yes loads of TV adverts!!! Too many and always for high fat, high calorie crap!

Plus breath spray, such as goldspot. I used it in the early days, but it seems the buzzard breath does improve!!! Hang on in there!

I suffered from that nasty taste for the first couple of weeks but then it disappeared.

I expect that you will find the same thing. You do need to drink lots though as that will really help with both the taste and the bad breath.

Don't worry though that nasty-taste-in-mouth will be the last thing on your mind after your first weigh in. If you are like most people (which I am sure you will be so long as you are "good") you will enjoy a fabulous first week weight loss and at that point you won't care if a family of skunks set up home by your back teeth!!!!!!! :D

At £66 a week damn right I've been good! The only thing that has passed my lips are food packs and the obligatory 4 litres of water. I might get some water flavouring when I go for my first pop-in tonight as hopefully that'll make it easier to drink the water - I'm really stuggling - its nearly 3 o'clock and I'm just starting my 5 pint of the day - only another 3 after this one! I might also take up drinking black tea as apparently that counts towards your 4 litres - I miss orange squash so much!

Is that right, about the black tea counting towards fluid intake, cos I was told it didn't. I've steered clear of drinking tea cos I thought "Bloomin eck, it's hard enough to drink four litres of water, without wasting time drinking tea that doesn't count towards it". Admittedly I can't recall my LLC telling me this, but I know my groupmates have said it before.

Well my LLC definitely said it does count - apparently this came from LL HQ in April. As would happen I've just tried some black tea and it was vile - think it was a mistake making it so strong!

Yeah, just show it the teabag and whip it back out LOL. Mind you, the water flavourings in hot water are actually really nice, have you tried that?

Funny you should say that - have just been for my first pop-in and I bought one each of the water flavourings. Have just come home and made a fruits of the forest pint of water and it was so nice! I think I'm going to find drinking the requisit amount of water much much easier now - its even helped mask the nasty taste in my mouth!

PS: Very excited by the look of the bars - they're much bigger than I thought they would be!

Yes, they make a welcome change, being able to chew something. Don't get too excited about them though will you LOL. They are alright but at least they do their job, as you wont end up craving another one after you have eaten (not like the Slimming World hi-fi bars)

try the fruits of the forest flavouring in the choc shake if you are still struggling to drink them, its my absolute favourite. Peppermint tea in the choc is also nice and the st clements is nice in the vanilla shake.

The shakes do taste different after you have been on the diet a while, I couldn't taste the choc one at all to begin with but now have 2 a day.

The horrid taste does go, I haven't tasted it for months now, the main thing is to keep drinking the water! (I am sure you are fed up of hearing that one:) )

Stick with it, its so worth while!

How are you doing now Missy? I hope your week is going really well.

I have totally changed the flavours I liked when I started. I loved the Thai Chilli but cannot stand it now, I didnt like the choc at all but with a few sweeteners and some coffee its pretty good, I have never liked any type of mushroom soup, but now the LL one is a fave!! As far as the bars go, I have never been able to eat any other than the Nut Mush (OOPS!! Meant Crunch!!) I just cannot stand them!

Beware the water flavours, they are lovely but too much and you may find things get a tad breezy!!

Have you tried Red Bush tea? Its an acquired taste, but actually quite pleasant & its caffeine free and as hydrating as water. Also I use the Clipper mint green tea, its really refreshing.

hope this all helps a bit!!

Hi Sez

My first week is going alright thanks - I've made it to day 5 and things can only get better!
I had my first Thai Chilli and lemon bar yesterday - the lemon bar was quite yucky but I managed to force it down - the soup however is possibly the work of the devil! I can't recall ever tasting anything quite so repulsive - it actually made me nearly throw up - don't think I'll be trying that one again - i had to brush my teeth to get rid of the taste!
Think I might be getting through the next 95 days on a combination of raspberry and strawberry shakes and chicken and mushroom soups (unless the toffee or fruit bars fare any better!)
Struggling with the water today (that'll teach me to not get out of bed till lunchtime) - just about to start my 6th Pint. Getting worried though 'cos I'm going to see a show tonight and don't wanna be missing half of it because of all the trips to the loo!

Hi MM

I'm in week 6 now of LL. What you'll find is over the coming weeks your tastebuds will change. I absolutely loved the Banana and strawberry at first, but caramel is now my favourite. I haven't tried the chilli soup, but love the chicken and mushroom ones.

Good luck with the water, needing to go to the loo will slow down I promise!!!!!

Have a great evening.

Hi Musical Missy,

I did my entire 100 days on only the caramel, chocolate, mushrooom and vegetable packs with a couple of fruit and toffee bars thrown in.

The rest of the LL stuff was enough to 'make me hurl' (charming terminology attributable to my son!!).

The Thai Chilli was particulary bad as were the Strawberry and Banana packs - too awful to endure, even for the sake of variety!!

Adding coffee to the Caramel and Chocolate packs makes a nice change. There isn't very much you can do with the Mushroom or Vegatable packs. I tried making 'stuffing' (that went in the bin) and popadums (they also said hello to the bin - what a waste!!). Now I don't mess with the STUFF (which is all that it is) and just add water to the "soups" and microwave the caramel and chocolate packs. Strange - but I quite look forward to them now!!!

Wee done for pushing through the first week! It des take a while to get used to breath etc! I was really paranoid about it at the start but used to it now! Yuccky cardboard feeling!! Tougue scraper a must! Tastes change week to week in my experience & I now live on choc, strawberry, banana & the occasional vanilla with coffee & candarel tablets! I rarely have the water flavours as they make me really windy and crampy! How is the pooing? I now take dulcolax once every two days or I just dont go!! Despite telling you the water does it on LL that is in my experience rubbish! No matter how much water I drink!! HTH!!

Afternoon MM!! I know what FP means about some packs making you "hurl", caramel, vanilla & any of the bars (except Nut Crunch) were particularly bad for me. I still cant take them, and I have re-tried, honest! Just shows how very different we all are, doesnt it? I reckon, whatever gets you through this diet, its gotta be done!!

Also, Must agree with ISOM re the water helping you "go". For me nothing helped me, I could drink a swimming pool and I still wouldnt go! I have to take Dulcolax regularly, and if really bad, I have used glycerol suppositories...honest, I had never even heard of them before!! Sme say the water flavours get you moving, but again, not me :(. Just give me horrendous, painful wind!

Hope the breath is improving. I was paranoid about it at first, although nobody ever mentioned it to me! I dont have the bad taste any more thank goodness, and I am sure that drinking lots really helps!

Keep posting, wont you!!

love xx

Hi musical missy,

I think we must be at about the same stage in our LL experience. I started on the packs last Tuesday, so I am on day 6 now. How are you finding it all? I'm finding most of the food ok. I had my first challenging day yesterday as the whole day and evening was spent with friends socialising, based aroiund eating and drinking. I felt throughly deprived, but I'm through it now. I hope that as the weight comes off I'll feel better about these situations.

I would love to hear how you do on your first weigh in. We have our class tomorrow night. My sclaes at home havn't moved since friday (????) I hope they move before tomorrow night!

Mini Mouse:)

Well I've made it to day 6 - hurrah- only another 94 days to the end of foundation!
Finding it difficult to drink all the water on weekends - its 10 to 4 and I'm half way through my 5th pint - still another 3 pints to go before bedtime!
Made biscuits out of a lemon bar today which marginally improved the taste of it - the toffee bar I had last night wasn't so bad though thank god.

Still quite concerned about tomorrow nights weigh-in though. I KNOW you're not suppposed to compare your own weight loss with others but that is sooooo difficult to do. At my mid-week WI (on day 3) I had lost 4.2lb which I'm thinking is pretty rubbish and will probably only equal a 6 or 7lb loss for the whole week. I think I'll be disappointed with that kind of loss - I wanted at least 10lb (and in my wildest dreams a stone) and its not like I haven't got enough to spare!
On the positive side - my jeans are significantly looser - so much so I can pull them down without undoing them.

Anyway - must go and have a wee - again!
