So cross... (IBS rant)

hannata

I can haz cake?
I've changed nothing in my diet this week apart from the inclusion of fruit and my bowels are flipping out!!! I have been diagnosed with IBS, and i'm avoiding fruit skin, eating a moderately good fibre intake.. just finding fruit a real barrier for me and its complete poo because fruit is 0pp and I actually enjoy eating fruit...

I was doubled over in agony this morning, in the gym changing room of all places

Anyone in a similar boat could give me some advice? :sigh: x

So sorry I can't help but I can sympathise :(
My ibs flares up quite often and i can't really put my finger on why - although brown bread and apples seems to be the main offenders. Had to go to bed in agony after dinner twice this week, I'm keeping bascopan in business at the moment!

I feel your pain. My IBS doesnt have a consistant trigger which is really frustrating, can be anything for me. I've been doubled up today too but I had a take away last night so I'm putting it down to that!

Hope you feel better soon! Have you been prescribed anything for it?

I can certainly sympathise too. It is horrible isn't it :(
This is my first week on ww and have *touches wood* been ok so far. But I had a flare up a couple of weeks ago and no amount of Buscopan could touch the pains.
I know some of the key trigger foods that set me off, but sometimes like the other week I am completely clueless as to why I had a mega flare up.
For me too much fibre, particularly oats make me worse.
Really hope you are feeling better now x

I never know what causes mine I can go weeks and feel fine, then have weeks of stomach spasms and pain.

I've been given fybogel.. not taking it at the moment, trying to get fibre with food rather than taking that stuff (i've heard that's it not wonderful for your system on a long term basis)

There are a lot of triggers but the most common ones are fruit, yeast & gluten (gluten is essentially flour which is found in nearly all junk food/takeout food/ready meals/and of course our lovely friend bread) so basically everything nice in the food world... :(

Hey guys, I can't really sympathise, but my mum has IBS so I know all about it... Few things.

1. Mum's doc told her Fybogel is fine to take for long periods of time, and she takes two a day, they really help her!
2. No foods really flare it up as much as stress, maybe in your subconscious you're both worrying about weight loss so its affecting your IBS?
3. Giving up gluten can help, but you can't eat your whole life without Gluten!

Not that I know anything personally about it, but it seems to me [with my mum's case] that the main cause is stress, and she seems to be stressed about something every day, except when she's on a holiday.. i.e. nothing to stress about! So try chill out girls!
But, P.S fruit does irritate her too! x

My OH is housebound due to his IBS so I really sympathise ladies! I suffer with it a myself but I find the main triggers to be stress, fennel, and fatty food. I keep it under control with immodium but since switching to WW if found it's better.

His IBS is constant 'going' & spasms and he even got on a liquid only diet, nout seems to work, so no idea on his front! 30 immodium a day can't even stop the wrath of his belly.

30 imodium a DAY? oh the poor guy! My mum never leaves the house without Buscopan, Imodium, Fybogel and Motilium! I get a slight touch of it myself, but I think its self inflicted with me sometimes, although every time I eat onions I die a little inside!

He's a Gastro-Anomaly lol. He can have a special Dietary shake or a Take out Pizza and it has the same effect. He hardly goes out as he can't control his symptoms 100% but we are working on it slowly.

I know what you mean about triggers/self infliction lol. I'll shovel down a kebab even when it's pointed and be like... WHY?!!

see if that was me, the way i am now, i wouldn't even bother pointing it!

I find that caffiene triggers my ibs. Have u tried cuttin certain things out your diet?

I was on a VLCD for a while and my IBS stopped. Added food into my diet and it started almost immediately.. Was doing Exante with no carb food and my blood pressure fell to the floor, meaning I couldn't maintain my fitness regime :(

I did a migraine diary and found that if I didn't have a certain amount of caffeine in my diet, I got bad migraines. I usually have the equivalent of a teaspoon of coffee a day so its not a lot of caffeine.

I know fruit is a trigger for certain... especially citrus fruits. I could eat a couple of apples minus skin perfectly ok, and bananas are fine too (not on an empty stomach)

My medical history is complicated and makes looking for triggers very difficult... I've got severe psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, IBS, migraines, cluster headaches, SAD, and histamine intolerance/exercise induced anaphylaxis. (all at the age of 24)

I suffered from what I thought was ibs for Years until I had a food intolerance test and it showed I had a high wheat intolerance. I now follow a gluten free diet 90% of the week and only have a wheat treat at weekends and I feel much better and my symptoms are much more stable. When I do have problems I take colpermin tablets which are peppermint oil which do help .

Have you seen a specialist about that? If you're gluten intolerant it might be caused by celiac disease (which can get really serious if untreated)

I've been tested for celiac & crohns, both negative. My gastroenterologist was useless, sent a letter to my doctor telling me what was wrong rather than talking to me and advising how to detect symptoms and intolerances... useful right? Not only that he was foreign and really hard to communicate with... Urgh :(

He told my doctor to tell me to take fybogel. I don't feel like my symptoms are severe enough (when I avoid intolerances) to justify taking a laxative that could very well make my bowel lazy and ineffective.

If I could I would go back on Exante, but it started as many problems as it fixed lol

I might give the peppermint a shot, I do rather like peppermint and spearmint tea :3

My intollerance test showed I was not sensitive to gluten and really the only treatment for coealic disease is to follow a gluten free diet. Unfortunately I would show as a negative as I have excluded gluten for so long and also I didn't have any other symptoms of the illness,

Ah. Yeah that is the only treatment but coeliacs have a stupidly high risk of bowel cancer. Everyone with it has to have cancer screens on a regular basis to spot it early. Would hate to see anyone ending up with that horrific disease.. xx

I know...if i honestly felt that I had the disease I would go and get referred, i post regularly on forums about it and have had loads of advice.

just found this it looks like a interesting post??

Well i suffer from IBS - which is bad news and my belly swell like a balloon even if i have not got a IBS
But i have come across these

e'lifexir flat tummy active.

They are for people that have bloated bellys and they worked wonders since i have took them and i have not had any other sytoms for IBS since or a blaoted belly!

what hey have in:
banana,vegetables,garlic,artichoke,arparagus,and cereals,corn and barley

what they do:
these are small food chains that can not be absorbed by the bodies and therefour reach the intestinal bacteria unchanged.
here, they are used solely by the bifidobactria, encouring rapid development and therefour having benefical effect on the intestinal tract.

it says take for 30 days and you will notice the different i felt the differents after one week

it taste of mint - and you have two a day one after a meal -
and you belly will not swell- look bloated or anything

since i have taken these i feel better and they are all good for you anyway! no crap inthem just what i wrote!
