Gosh, My Dad is from South African too and was classified 'coloured' because he was abandoned on a hillside and couldn't verify his lineage. He was brought up in an orphanage and left the country by stowing away on a fishing boat, he was found outside of SA waters and then went into the merchant navy, lying about his age.

I also work with a Somali and he is wary of telling people what country he is from.

The scenes of those children haunt me.

My great uncle came to stay with us when i was little, and he had been booted out of South Africa. Due to Facebook i am in touch with my cousin. His grandfather was my great uncle and he was told by someone that he should be proud of his grandfather due to what he did for the Apartheid. I have been trying to do a bit of research and have found documents relating to his prison stay but they wont release his papers to me unless i can prove my relationship to him.

I can tell you lots of SA stories that my dad told me when i was younger.
