Sushi & the syn calculator

Amyeve

Mummy of 2!
Picked up a pack of vegetarian hosomaki sushi rolls (yum) in sainsburys yesterday. i've only ever been able to get them from tesco before so i think its new to sainsburys and its not on the syns online yet and nothing in the basics.

so i tried working out with the calculator but im confused...

there are 12 rolls in the pack and each roll is 14g. I've included rice on there as the free food allowance.

42g or 3x rolls come back as free on green.

anything more than 56g (so 4 rolls+) comes up as 1/2 a syn

the reason im confused is that i thought if a food is free then its eaten freely as much as you want

I had the same thing the other day with heinz reduced sugar and salt ketchup. I don't understand either.

I've just had some for my lunch. Lovely!

I thought it would be syn free but doing some reading here, there might be something they mix with the rice to make it bind, therefore adding a bit of syn value.

Ah, I have just looked at the ingredients on the box. There's sugar listed in the sushi rice. It won't be much but that will be why it's not free. Also listed is mayonnaise and there's a bit of mustard flour in the wasabi too...

I am going to count mine as 2, just to be on the safe side :)

Totally worth it though!
