I went to see my GP last week because I've had a strange rash on my feet for a long while now. I had to have blood tests and the results have come back showing that I have very high levels of ferritin in my blood. I have to have the test repeated in a few weeks and if it's the same/worse she's going to refer me to hospital for further tests on my immune system as apparently a high level of iron is very harmful and can be a sign of some underlying disease. It's scared the life out of me and I'm worrying myself sick.
After thinking about it a lot, I'm wondering whether the SW diet could be contributing to my high ferritin levels. I now eat a lot of vegetables (including dark green ones), loads of eggs, wholegrain rice, beans/pulses and lean meat etc which all contain lots of iron. I am probably eating a lot more iron than I did pre-slimming world. I was wondering whether anyone else has noticed a link between SW and their ferritin levels?
Think I'm clutching at straws really as my GP told me it would be very difficult to eat enough iron to get levels raised like mine but thought it was worth asking!!
