Tips for Calorie Counting?

Hi Everyone :)

After failing at numerous diets, I have decided to give calorie counting a go!
I lost 6.5 lbs in the first week, but only 1.5lb in the second week.
I've been trying to stick to around 1200 calories, can anyone tell me is this is enough, or do I need to be having more or less?
