Tofu virgin!

I have just cooked & eaten my very first bit of Tofu. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I liked the texture & I thought the flavour was not bad!

I was a tad predictable by putting it in a stir fry but it actually made a nice change from the prawns I normally use.

The only issue I now have is half a block of Tofu sitting in my fridge that needs eating within 3 days & I have no idea what to do with it. Don't really want another stir fry as I have 2 already this week!! Any ideas?

I'd be quite interested in this too as I've just ordered some Tofu to try.

Tofu is amazing! Loads of good ideas here -

As long as you have firm tofu, try pressing it first using kitchen paper and a big book or too. Pressed tofu will soak up more flavour from a marinade and tends to grill better.

Have fun - you can do so much creative stuff with tofu :)

Wow! Thank you Missy! Loads if ideas. Gonna get creative.

The more you marinade the better I find - tofu doesn't really taste of much by itself so relies on you giving it flavour.

I like it just plain-ish - pressed, sliced thin, soaked in a mix of soy sauce, balsamic and herbs for a few hours and then grilled with a bit of fry light. Really nice in sandwiches too!

can I just ask... what is the texture of tofu? I never dare try it!

Depends on what sort you get. Silken tofu is quite squishy and creamy - that's the sort you'd use to make cheesecake or a creamy dessert. Firm tofu is quite meaty - has a nice bite to it. Softer than quorn though. The texture apparently changes again if you freeze it but I've never tried that :)

I often freeze tofu, it helps to firm it up some more x

I need to try doing that some time.

Making scrambled tofu tomorrow - yum!

Made scrambled tofu today - absolutely lovely and the texture is gorgeous if you make sure the tofu is well pressed first. This was my second attempt!

Had it with quorn sausages (I'm not a vegan... yet!), salad and a part baked cob.

Also attached a picture of my very high tech tofu pressing technique ;)

Does anybody have a cheesecake recipe with silken tofu
Bought some to try and don't have the guts to use it! As I have never tried it before!

There is one in the link above for pumpkin cheesecake, which sounds lovely!

Just found this basic one on google - http://www.veganfamily.co.uk/tofu.htm

Should be easy enough to make it SW friendly :)

Do not fancy pumpkin Can't imagine it in a sweet although very seasonal I'll stick to a choc or toffee one or even a lemon one but as I've been good ?no biscuits in the house only the go aheads in packs of 3 for J so I'll have to wait till I've been shopping as I wanted to do the choc brownies too !!
As you can see having a mega Choccy withdrawal this I would say weekend but I've been wearing my Choccy head ALL WEEK! ?

Me too hehe! I've been killing my chocolate craving with mini milks and freddos ;)
