I'm new to this forum and I've been doing SW for 1 year. I had a total thyroidectomy a couple of years ago and been on levothyroxine ever since (and felt terrible and foggy). I'm in the process of switching to armour thyroid to see if it helps but had some complications over Christmas which have resulted in my tsh being 60 which has meant I was very under active. Until this point I had lost 3 and a half stones in the year. During christmas wheat my lowest I did still lose weight. But 4 weeks later I find I'm now gaining weight even though I am being so very strict on SW and doing it to the letter. I've even now cut out some of my syns to see if it helps.
does anyone know if my low levels of thyroxine could take a few weeks to affect my weight as this is the only thing I can think of.. I'm finding it a bit depressing at the moment as I'm not just at a standstill I'm putting weight on!
Im not going to give in but it is affecting me emotionally and making me feel a bit futile. Or could this even be a bit of a plateau? I've got another 3-4 stone to lose.
Any advice, knowledge or encouragement welcome

    Hello Titian,

I am sorry i don't have an answer for you as i don't know that much about your condition.

I just wanted to welcome you to the site.

My only advise is to keep going with Slimming World, it really does work, but if you are finding that you are not losing or gaining while following 100% just know that you are giving it your best, and when they stabilize/ lower your levels you should lose again. Also, just think that while you are following the plan you are giving yourself the best platform to regain from when your levels are back down.

Talk to your consultant (if you are going to group) and maybe there are things they can suggest like reducing your syns (i find 7 a good number for me), or focus on the foods from the food optimizing book that have an S symbol as this are proven to speed up weight loss.

Don't worry about this too much though, weight loss is a forever journey and we all have breaks on the way for one thing or another, just focus on the plan, don't worry about gains or maintains until they have sorted your levels.

Hey I had a total thyroidectomy 10 years ago and still my levels aren't right!! It's so sole destroying!! I'm at the end of my tether. I've lost 4 stone on SW but for the last year have just gone up and down 2-3lb and just can't lose anymore! My symptoms of hypothyroidism has got worse too- severe joint ache/sleepiness/pmt etc. I was doing more research last night and interesting found some people take t3&t4 together were as at the mo I only take t4. Thought I'll speak to my doc but then even more interesting apparently thyroxine requires a certain amount of vit b and iron to work effectively. I have my bloods booked for tue but I'm going to call the doc tomorrow and ask hr to add a vit blood test to my list too, it could just be something that simple.

it sounds like we're maybe in the same situation, I really want to lose another 1.5/2 atone but I'd be happy with 1 at this rate.
