I just wondered what people felt about warm shakes and how to make them?
Do I still shake them in the shaker?!!
And what flavours taste best warm?

Thanks its fab to have other peoples feedback!

    Hi Lydia

i like the shakes warm, but its a personal choice. I tend to put mine into a jug with about 1/2 pint of hot but not boiling water, and then blitz with an electric whisk thing i've got. I dopnt use the shaker much as i found a plastic knife or an electric whisk works much better.

I also add a bit of nutmeg to the vanilla one as it makes it taste wonderful.

Make them hot, not warm, and blend them well in the shaker (with a hand blender, mere shaking isn't enough). I like the chocolate and coffee ones the best hot, although they are all nice - I never have cold shakes. :)

Thanks guys for your replies, the only thing I am finding is the inconvenience of making them at work, so bringing a hand whisk to work aswell makes it even more difficult!!

I have the same hassle at work. I have a little plastic knife, just a disposable one from the canteen.

I add a little water to a mix in a mug and then mix really well with the knife, till it is a paste and has no lumps. Then I add a little water at the time and give it a really good mix with the knife. I dont know why but it works so much better than a sppon or fork.

    Hi Lydia,

I bought a stick blender from Argos for about £4.00 and leave it at work.
I use that with a cheap plastic jug to make my shakes in and it does the trick.

I mix a pack of banana and a pack of chocolate together and use it to make 4 hot shakes - delicious!

    Hey slimoncemore!
Thanks for your reply! I can see me taking a trip to Argus tonight!! How much water do you add to make so many hot drinks out of two sachets? x

The choc and choc mint are absolutely scrummy hot. Do them in your blender as normal.

I pour the water from the kettle into my mug, top it up with a little cold to cool it and put that into the jug. I always split my packs if I have them hot as half a pack gives you a nice creamy drink and you can space them out across the day then. If you mix the two sachets together then quarter pack makes one drink. If I need 'comfort' food then I add a sweetener to the drink to make it a little sweeter - it helps sometimes!

    Hey Cicerone!
Have you tried the other flavours hot and decided those two are the best or are they the only ones you have tried hot? x

I like the shakes hot too... decided early on that cold shakes in Nov/Dec was not a great plan!!! Butterscotch, toffee & walnut & vanilla are all great hot as well as chocolate. I use a stick blender too, to make it smooth & creamy. Have you tried using half a pack of vanilla, butterscotch or toffee/walnut with a spoonful of coffee to make a gorgeous 'latte' style drink? Yum!

Woohoo, that was a good guess on my part then, as I chose those flavours last night to make hot shakes with, lol! :D I have a great stick blender, but unfortunately got it from poor old Woolies so can't recommend it to anyone! I will try your latte idea, sounds yummy! :)

(PS. I see you're in 'rural Scotland', which sounds lovely. However, I just wondered how far away your CDC was - is she next door, or do you have to get in the car and drive miles?! Just being nosey, but it's interesting to see posts from someone who lives in such a different environment to me!) :))

Jaycey, the only thing next door to me is a herd of sheep.... it's pretty remote! My CDC lives about 15 miles away but she's great as she does home visits. I don't know anyone else who does CD around here - her other clients are quite a way in the other directions, hence me using minis as my support group!

I think a vanilla latte is a great idea for this affy... just back from a brisk dog walk & ready to dig into an afternoon's work. A latte would set me up for that!

I have all my shakes hot too, especially as I'm constantly feeling cold with drinking all this water . I love the vanilla one with a little bit of instant coffee added. And the toffee/walnut is yummy too. Also butterscotch is lovely, but that now gets saved to be made into a mousse :). I usually have a hot chocolate at the end of my day. I use a Braun handheld stick blender, well the whisk attachment part. Got it aaaaages ago to puree food for the kids. Never used it so much before :D.

What a great place to live (except for the weather of course ;)), even lazy me wouldn't mind walking the dog there - it must be much nicer to get healthy somewhere like that, rather than pounding away in some sweaty gym. (After all this is over, you could always become a CDC yourself and make a few pennies! :))

I'm sitting here listening to the traffic outside, but imagining you bounding through the heather like someone in 'Monarch of the Glen', lol! :D:D

Hee hee!!! Like the idea of me bounding through the heather. Walked the dogs earlier, but was more like a stroll along a woodland track... still an hour or so of sunshine and moving! As you point out, sunshine is rare up here so I had to make the most of it before winter sets in again! Downsides... 40 min drive to nearest pool, and swimming is my fave exercise... self-employed & mad busy so rarely make it. But feel much less daunted at the idea of a swimsuit these days!

If I wasn't working long hours already I would be tempted by the CDC idea... I am evangelical about CD. It has turned my life around, seriously. But then, just not enough population here for there to be room for more than one anyway... but it must be such a rewarding job!!!
