How absolutely disgusted that his new salary is 250.000 pounds a week, one million a month, 12 million a year !!!!!

How can a footballer, someone doing something so useless, be worth that sort of money.

I realise that football these days is big business and that the service and support industries involved with it generate jobs and income.

Come on !!! That is obscene !!!

It infuriates me that not just Wayne Rooney but other footballers are paid such high amounts. This means the ticket prices go up & changes it from a family, saturday day out available to all, to a hobby/day out which is no longer easily available for the working class, but becomes a treat. I have no idea how much OH pays for his season ticket & to be honest I'd rather not know.

Its not that long ago that footballers had 2nd jobs, eg plumbers, electrician etc. to make ends meet.

When did football become such a high paid profession.

Couldn't agree more! My dad and I used to be season ticket holders and go to every away game, and we just can't afford to do it anymore. I still go to football. Not as often as I used to but I can't tear myself away!

I'm 26 now and have been watching football regularly since I was about 11...the game has changed so much (for the worse) in my opinion. I think Sky are to blame, as they've turned football into a circus. I also blame the 'bigger clubs' using money to buy themselves success.

My ex husband was a Manchester United footballer. He had an afternoon job to make ends meet. He was paid a pittance.

With his money he can afford to pay for the best accountants to *manipulate * his money for him.

    Fern !!!!! lol .:8855:

    Margy !!!! lol:8855:

I miscalculated his salary . When you take into account the 5 week months, he earns 13 million a year. Whats an odd million here and there.

How could his wife forgive him. It is not his money because she has her own fortune.

If my husband was unfaithful with anyone, but even more so with a prostitute it would be bye, bye, adios. Money or no money.

Oh My, 13 MILLION????? That's crazy money! And you're right Kirsty, I wonder if that includes endorsements? Strange world we live in when footballers get this and doctors, nurses, carers, teachers, soldiers etc. don't even get HALF this!!!! Wow.

I'm not really a 'football' person, lol, but I did start noticing the kind of 'celeb culture' in the so called beautiful game kind of started with the Beckhams...David was the first footballer I noticed doing a lot of ad campaigns and endorsements. Lets not even talk about how much he and Victoria 'crazy cheekbones' are sitting on year after year. I read something recently stating they are richer than the queen! It's shocking how much they get paid and nevermind the other team players!

Then again it's happening all over with these "athletes"....don't get me started on Tiger Woods' take home pay. I don't even understand why golf is considered a sport!!!!

    HALF !!!!

    a nurses salary..............

    Band 1........... 13,653

    TO ...........

    Band 9............................ 97,478

I don't need to elaborate anymore. You get the idea.

Wayne Rooney's weekly wage would pay 20 band 1 nurses for a year.

That is how obscene it is.

Forgive me if my figures are wrong. Maths never was my strong point.

Unless I'm mistaken, the salaries for footballers quoted in the press are TAKE-HOME pay!!!!! Even more overpaid!

I couldn't believe reports after England's dismal performance in the World Cup saying that the players were under too much pressure and stressed out. No! A bomb disposal expert in Afghanistan has the right to be stressed out, not a so-called entertainer who can't be *rsed to perform for the very people who pay his wages.
