Wholemeal pitta bread Pizza question

Do I have to warm the pitta first, split it, or just top it?

I usually warm pittas under the grill for about a minute on both sides then cut them in half so that I have 2 pockets - 2 "sarnies" are always better than one! . . . . . mind over matter
