100 Days

A reflection on my 100 Days on LighterLife

So, who'd have thought it eh?
Me, not only sticking to a diet for 100 days, but sticking to abstinance from food 100% for 100 days!
I would say I'm in shock, but honestly, I knew from day 1 that I would do it.

Starting out, I knew this was going to change me; what I didn't realise, however, was just how much I would change - physically, and mentally.

I have discovered so many new things in the past few months;

  • the joy of buying clothes straight off the rack,
  • the ease of getting around that other people take for granted,
  • the fact I have an actual chin :p
  • a sense of self-worth,
  • a confidence I knew I had but was never able to use,
  • being comfortable in my own skin,
  • wearing just a tshirt and not having to worry about sweating,
  • really being able to open up about myself to those around me,
  • a relationship,
  • a sense of adventure I thought I lost as a kid,
  • excitment at the thought of new and unknown things instead of fear,
  • no embarassment about wanting to do physical activites such as bike riding,
  • that I am a photo-whore and pose-a-holic :p
  • leaving behind the sadness I felt at who I was,
  • embracing a newfound happiness at who I am becoming,
  • feeling socially acceptable,
  • seeing friends faces' delight at my change,
  • feeling healthy and happy,
  • loving life :)

Deciding to do LL was, without a doubt, the very best decision of my life, and probably will remain so, as everything that happens in my life from this point will be because I chose to do LL and make it so.

For anyone out there who is thinking about doing LL, believe me, trust me, it is the greatest opportunity of your life. It has given me back mine.


I know a big part of why I am succeeding is this forum. Everything from the lovely comments about pictures and achivements, to sharing what I have learnt and enjoying others' success too has kept me on the path which has led to me to this happy place.

The stories and journeys of members such as BL, SB, Porgeous and Guy have given me inspiration along the way, and continue to do so.


So, here's to the next 100 days - even it takes that long, I am going to get to where I finally want to be - and I type this final statement with a conviction and a huge, knowing smile on my face;

I am going to be slim and healthy.
For life.

Inspirational. im starting CD next week, I only hope I can have half of the success you had. Well done and keep up the good work! x

What a great post Pete. I remember posting similar things upon realising I was really truly going to make it to goal. It' slife changing, and there are just soooo mnay things slim people take for granted.

Its a good list. And you have done so well - though as I have said before, I knew as soon as we "met" you, I knew that you were going to be fine, and make it to the end.

Well done Pete!! You are an inspiration to many!!!

Being able to wear a t-shirt and not worry about love handles lol

Excellent post Pete - echoed a lot of my feelings about LL and my completion of 100 days and 100% abstinence, just put rather more succinctly that I could manage!

I totally know what you mean that I knew (and continue to know) that I will do this successfully - it's been a total revelation to me that I have the determination and drive to complete this and my life has changed in many, many ways too, some little and some HUGE!!

You've definitely inspired me along the way, and that post will inspire a great many to come.

I absolutely agree with all those points and as time goes on more will surely come to you, as they do with me -almost daily.
Today i had to work in a different office due to weather/snow stuff. Some people came up to me this afternoon and said they hadn't recognised me this morning, sorry for ignoring me! That means the word must have gone round during the day.
So many little things too.
Congratulations. I know you'll never go back to how you were before. We have learnt so much about ourselves and others that will stay in our heads and hearts for life.

Yeah fantastic post pete, I can't wait to get started next week and start losing some weight. May I add another one to your list? I'm gonna enjoy being more comfortable sitting down in public places, be it a cafe, train, bus, plane and my the one I'm most excited about, actually being able to fit on fairground rides! Its been years since I've been to a Theme Park.

Well done on your fantastic achievement and hopefully I will be writing similar words in a few months time.

May I add another one to your list? I'm gonna enjoy being more comfortable sitting down in public places, be it a cafe, train, bus, plane .

I can confirm that it's a fantastic feeling matey. As someone who uses a bus and train every day it's made a huge difference to me. I sat in the middle seat on the train this morning. I know it sounds like a small thing but in my world, it's a huge development!

and well done pete on your 100 days. The catalogue pose cracks me up lol.....

Yeah i found that about sitting in the middle of people it such a relief to get some room and not be squashed or squash others

And not to have to endure their look of panic as we appraoch the seat between the two.... ;) :)

I cannot tell you the satisfaction I felt when I got on a plane and I had room in my seat - I could pull my knees up onto the seat, and I could even put my tray down and lean over and lay my head on it to sleep leaning forward! It was a realllllly wonderful thing. :) And going up and down the aisle's pretty cool now too! And not to mention the excess seat belt left over when I pulled it tight. COnsidering my last flight before LL, I was at the END of the seatbelt - any bigger and I would have needed an extension - I am so grateful I never needed to!!

It is indeed the little things in life!! :D

Pete you've done so well and you've shared so much with others on here in the way of inspirational messages and support. 100 days sounds such a long time, but you got your head down and blasted through it. When I got to 100 days I realised it was no time at all for such a huge, life changing event and that it was going to take me longer to catch up mentally, even though the physical changes were obvious.

When I first came on here, there weren't many guys around, but look at you all now! I'm sure Pete's posts have helped others feel less self conscious about posting as well.
