Thursday 24th July 2014

Another really hot day.. and I'm always pleased to be in an upstairs flat at these times as I don't wear anything.. at all! (Not a pretty sight!)

Started to sort some more things in the bedroom but soon gave it up as it's TOO BLINKIN' HOT!! Always tomorrow.. she says hopefully

Made a beef stew in my slow cooker mainly because the meat needed to be used a.s.a.p.
Very delicious altho' I only had half of a serving.. in other words just a couple of spoonfuls as I just haven't been at all hungry today. Calories quite low again and I'm not worried under the circumstances.

Lunch - Oat cake 1 + Cheese 30g
Snack - Brazil Nuts 30g
Dinner - Beef Stew home made 1/2 portion

Very hot last night so not a lot of sleep but then after getting up about 5 I slept in armchair for a couple of hours... and really good sleep it was too.
Heat today was made bearable by a bit of a cool breeze. Went out to Tesco after taking a couple of things to a different charity shop.. usually very hard to park there but I noticed a space as I was about to go past. Took in one of those V shaped pillows I bought quite some time ago and only used it once.. thought it was quite uncomfortable tbh..

Must get my car washed soon.. there are spiders webs over the side mirrors and it looks like an old wreck.

Carbs up a fair bit but as I haven't been eating much lately I decided to have some dumplings in my stew tonight... very hard to resist at any time when I make stew!
Weight now 185.4 = 13st 3.4lbs.. hope it stays that way..

Breakfast - Liberte Strawberry Yogurt + Oats 30g + Honey 1/2Tblspn
Lunch - WW Bread 17g + Butter 6g + Banana small 1
Snack - NIL
Dinner - Beef Stew + Dumplings 2
Supper - Digestive Biscuits 2 + AQctimel Yogurt Drink 100g

Hi Bev.. it is a wee bit too hot for me but it's so nice to see the sun anyway.

Saturday 26th July 2014

All things going quite fine this morning and the C&W music was exceptionally good today.

Had my hair done at 1o'clock and the went to get my car washed.. absolutely sweltering sitting in the car so I got out whilst they were doing it. I did find it rather comical that the couple of women in the next car behind me chose to sit in it for the wash part and when they came over where the dry and polish is done they both got out and were really red and dripping with sweat...

Then, as it was too nice to come straight home, I went to Argos about 15mins drive and bought an over the door shoe rack. Hope to hang my shoes on there and inside my clothes cupboard and eventually get rid of the kitchen "table"

Lovely cool air flowing thro' the windows today.. great!
Sorted the pile of trousers for altering.. at last got the measurements okay but I'm not going to finish them until my home help comes in as she said she would check the lengths for me.

Assembled my new shoe rack and one of the struts doesn't go in properly.. I tied it in place which looks quite okay and I can't be bothered to return it anyway.

I was going to cook a meal tonight but left it far too late and had a salad instead.

It's been a lovely cool day here, such a welcome break from the intense heat! Your food sounds lovely x

Thanks.. and thanks for the visit too.

I lived in Liverpool for a while but some many years ago now.
Have you heard of a firm called Barbour Threads? They moved over from the North of Ireland and I moved with them and got a rather crumby flat on Edge Hill and the firm was in Speke.... Happy days!

Yayyyy indeedy. Well done you
PS you've typed todays WI wrong in your sig!

Monday contd:

Thanks for noticing my error Bev...

Lovely and cool today but still able to go out without even a cardi.
Decided to return the shoe storage rack after all.. a bit silly to have a new rack hanging there tied up with string! The one I originally wanted was a linen type and much narrower but they didn't have it in stock there so went into the city to the Castle Mall.
Really bad day to go as several roads were under repair and closed and the queues of traffic were horrendous. To make matters worse I took a turn in the road without thinking and ended up in a bus only area. Felt very embarrassed and was made to feel worse by umpteen drivers shouting out of their windows at me!!
After managing to get to the Mall I had a nice cuppa to revive plus a vegetable pasty which was very tasty. Got the shoe storage item and went into the Vodafone shop to ask them to do a top up for me.. nice young man was only too happy to oblige and I didn't have to wait long either which made a change.
Driving home was even more dire as the traffic continued to crawl along at snails pace.

Absolutely exhausted so bed is now on the cards and I shall log my food tomorrow.

Nope not heard of them, I used to live in Edge hill though! lovely area x

Evening Emm hope you're having a good night's sleep.

Barbour threads are now part of the Coats group - and Coats Barbour and Coats Terko are still available.
I used them many moons ago - they were mainly specialist linen and flax threads, most often used in industry but available for the domestic market too.
Plus standard cotton threads - way before the days of the synthetic stuff we get today.
My Grandad used to work for CPA (Calico Printers Association) now also part of the Coats group - and I think they must have all been part of the same group then as he used to bring Barbour Threads home for me. That how I know the name.

Morning Emm - just dropped in to say well done on your weight loss. Hope you are enjoying the sunshine. When do you come to Edinburgh? I know you told me at one point but I couldn't find the thread.

I'm feeling quite depressed today...had a bad night and was very upset about not hearing from any of my family. I know it may be that I have only myself to blame and things will most probably not get back to how it was.. or perhaps as I have often wondered..to how I thought it was. I'm having a right "poor me" episode.. my family life when I was young had very little loving kindness and/or attention in it and then spending most of my teens living on my own in lodgings or a bedsit. When eventually I married he turned out to be a real rotter and I had many beatings... and now I find myself on my own and hardly a word from anyone... .. life's so cruel sometimes.

Right, I'm going to play devils advocate here whether you like it or not.

I used to have similar moans about my dad never contacting me.
Mr Pom used to say "OK - but when was the last time YOU picked up the phone to him?"
Hmmmmmm - used to make me stop dead in my grumble.
Contacts between parent/child are a two way street and I was just as bad as him.

So the question I would ask is how long is it since you contacted them?
If it's been recently then apologies.

I do know what you are saying but (!?) the fact is it is understood that she is either at work or rushing around and it's better for her to ring me when she has time with the result I feel that I will be intruding in her plans.
On the other hand perhaps it would be better for me to try anyway and risk the result rather than sitting worrying about it!
Perhaps it's more to do with my not having any confidence in meeting the "challenge" 'cos I'll be wrong whatever I do!

Oh Emma, I got a little teary reading that. I don't really know what to say as I don't want to upset you any more. Keep holding on x

Thanks Linz for your comment... unfortunately the old depression syndrome does affect me on occasion and I get rather forlorn... feeling much better now.

After a very good sleep last night plus having phoned my D yesterday and had a nice chat too all things are looking a lot brighter in my world today!
I think I rather over did things on Monday but that's what happens if I go into the city... nowhere is just a few steps away.. but at least I did achieve what I set out to do.

I also phoned my brother and was pleased to hear from my SIL's D that he had gone out to have a swim. He looked so distressed and tired with his wife being so ill now plus the fact is he lost his first wife with multiple sclerosis and now to be faced with the same situation is just awful. It did make me rethink my own situation somewhat.
More items turfed out of my hoards I'm pleased to say... I have a bread maker which I have never ever been able to make a decent loaf of bread with and yet I find it so hard to part with it! I did advertise it on one occasion for £10 with no replies and I was quite relieved.
Still very hot here and I must admit I'm getting quite fed up with it mainly because I get a lot of hives on my arms which is driving me mad. I've tried all sorts of things and have aloe vera moisturiser that I use but the relief is only very temporary.
