I HAVE IN TOTAL LOST 3 STONE OVER THE LAST 3 MONTHS(NOT ALL ON CD)AND PEOPLE ARE REALLY STARTING TO NOTICE,AND YES THATS GREAT BUT WHEN I GET A COMPLIMENT LIKE"GOD YOU LOOK GREAT YOU`VE LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT" I REPLY WITH THANKS AND THEN QUICKLY TURN AND SAY "BUT IM STILL SO FAT/BIG" OR "I`VE STILL A LONG WAY TO GO" ETC.
WHY CAN I NOT JUST ACCEPT A COMPLIMENT WHEN ITS GIVEN ,INSTEAD OF TAKING IT AND THEN STOMPING ALL OVER IT AND PUTTING MYSELF DOWN,I MEAN I WORK HARD TO LOSE THE EXCESS AND THEN WHEN THE REWARDS COME I JUST CANT ACCEPT THEM,
IS ANYONE OUT THERE THE SAME OR AM I ALONE ON THIS???

I'm the same .... I always say "it's just the tip of the iceberg", or "I've got a long way to go yet". I've never been good with compliments, so I tend to just brush them aside.

Jokingly, I have threatened friends that I am going to do an Extreme Makeover-style Reveal at the end wearing a shiny gold bikini :D;):D. That's enough to scare anyone.

Ive Come To The Conclusion That Ive Been Big For Sooooo Long Now That Its Easier To Hear The Bad Things Sp When You Do Get A Compliment You Go Straight Into Defence Mode.
I Was In My Aunts The Other Day And My Cousin Said I Was Looking Great And Then In The Same Breath He Said "i Dont Think I`ll Like You Skinny(thats Not Happening Any Time Soon!!!!)jesus There I Go Again)because You Might Lose Your Personality Wtf I Was Not Impressed, ive Always Been Bubbly Even Before My Fat Days!!!!

oh i know exactly how u feel! wen people say to me wow u look great u've lost loads of weight. i feel patronised like they r mocking me! i know its silly! i always say back to them- no i've not really lost loads i've still got loads more to go, im still fat!
i wish i could take a compliment too! lets make a pact that wen we get a compliment ppl we take it and feel good because of it! we dont answer back unless its thanku and we dont feel patronised---and we ignore stupid family members comments who should really know better!! x

One of my lovely aunties (and she is genuinely lovely) always says "I am statuesque and carry my weight well...and some people are meant to be sturdy and strong" and other little gems like that...they make me feel like I was born to be fat and I cope with it soooo well.
And though she means well I would rather she said "you're fat but could be thin if you worked at it."

Still I take compliments okay...even if I am not convinced they are true.
I just say "thank you" and change the subject. I will not be able to take a compliment well until I feel what is being said about me...is true. I know exactly how you feel ladies.

Its a very Irish Trait to not to be able to accept a compliment and I see you're from my side of the water LOL....

I hate even people saying oh you coloured your hair LOL.. no you are definitely not alone

When people tell me I have lost weight i always say thanks but I would really like to lose another 17. But then again I was annoyed when no one appeared to notice. Can't win really - he he.

This is a really good idea and I'm going to put it into practice. If the compliment is sincerely meant, it's a bit of a slap in the face to say back to the person "yeah, but I've still got loads to go". And if it's not sincerely meant (my MIL is forever looking me up and down and "sizing" me up, she is obsessed by weight, not just mine), then it just shuts them up and moves the conversation on.

I'm seeing her in about a week and a half, and was dreading it, as if she notices my weight loss, she will want chapter and verse, and I hate talking to her about any diet. But now I shall just smile and move on. :)
