Thanks everyone, you've made my smile even bigger . I wore one of my new size 22 dresses and new cardy. My boy wore a shirt and tie. So cute. His Nana and Granda had put balloons up and decorated a cake and put a little buffet on. I did have a sip of prosecco to toast little man and I did have a bite of cake (and made a wish) and had a mouthful of the inside of a pie to get my son to try something new. Just settling down to a shake now he's in bed. It's been a lovely day.

We got home at five to find several phone messages from the hospital. On Thursday I had asked if my back MRI results were in and was told they weren't on the system yet so hadn't been seen by a Doc (MRI was Xmas eve). We went up to Northumberland thurs afternoon. Apparently Friday the Doc saw the scan and I need surgery. The messages said they want to admit me tomorrow for spinal surgery on Monday Morning. I'm so angry. I've been suffering with this for months.

Im also scared of leaving my boy and losing my job which I go back to in six weeks. My husbands parents fly out on hols for a month on Tuesday. My husband will have to take time off work again to look after our lad. Timing couldn't be worse.

So please don't forget me if I'm not around for a few days. I intend on staying on the plan in hospital. The foods awful in there anyway. When I was in 8 years ago after my accident a lady actually popped out for a takeaway. She'd had brain surgery and her head wrapped up in bandages!

Everyone keep going. I expect splendid results and I will be watching sneakily on my phone when I can xxx

The third frustrated sounding phone message from the hospital said I've discs which need surgery and to call as soon as possible. That's all I know. The other messages just said it was the spinal unit and to call ASAP. I've to call the ward in the morning to speak to the specialist nurse but they didn't say what time. After ten on a Sunday do you think? They do loads by keyhole now, unlike the full ten hour open back job I had done in 2006. It'll be fine! They can't object to me staying on the diet because the first thing they'll say is to lose weight anyway

All will be well. I'll miss my WI on Tuesday though so might have a sneaky peak in the morning. They'll want to know my weight anyway.

I'd say try about 9ish so that they hold the bed for you Angel just in case they think you are away for the weekend & call someone else in instead. She can always ring you back if she's not there yet.

I wouldn't worry about them saying anything about the diet. Just tell them you are getting all the nutrients you need if they ask.
Some times though they may ask you to have a carb drink just as a pre-op boost depending on how long the surgery is. x

Thanks Susie. I called the unit when I got in at five but i need to speak to a specific person in the morning. I will try at 9. It's an hours drive to get there too. Your advice really helps and is reassuring thanks. I was actually shaking after I got the messages, daft huh. Time for some sleep I think.

Hospital called, the HDU Sister rang. The good news is that I have to wait for a call in the morning because the High dependancy unit (?) doesn't have a bed for me tonight. I'm still not clear on what's to be done. All I know is discs and surgery. Ah well, it'll give me time to bask in my soon to be 19's and catch up on diaries.

My boy saw snow for the first time this morning. He was fascinated by the big flakes. Magical moment.
