another newbie to 5:2

    Started the 5:2 diet this week. I have previously done weight watchers and over the past 2 and a half years the weight has crept back on. I wanted to try something g different this time and this one is the one I'm trying.
    I did my first day of 500 calories on weds. I found it surprisingly easy but that's probably down to do 12 hour shifts and don't usually get time to eat if busy. My 500 calorie days will be days I work. I had 546 that days. I was pretty chuffed with that. I have to have breakfast lunch and dinner though. Although breakfast is on the Go so usually a banana or apple.
    Just trying to find some 300 calorie dinners to make. This week was leftover spaghetti Bolognese from night before inside a large flat mushroom. Definitely having that again. Got to allow extra calories for some breadcrumbs on top though. I needed a crunch as missed the garlic bread. Thinking tomorrow will be a 500 calorie day. I am looking forward to it. But need to find a suitable lunch as feel I will get bored of salads. X

    Good luck, ive just started too, its been 8 days and 3 fast days so far. I will be fasting on tues amd fri as it fits better with my life.

    Hi, thanks for the comment. I weighed myself today and have lost a whooping 5lbs this week. I am soo chuffed. Definitely gonna stick with this for a while. I wasn't sure if I could do it as my fast day on Sunday made me feel a bit dizzy in the evening. Kept drinking loads and loads to make me feel better. Gonna try another week and see how it goes. I have my fast days on weds and either Saturday or Sunday. I weigh myself on a Tuesday.

    Have you weighed yourself yet? I do find it a good motivation. What and how do you eat on fast days?

    No not yet, will tomorrow but not 100% sure what I weighed last week which really is unlike me lol I know on the sat I was the lightest I've been since having my daughter, but then 3 days of non fasting happened lol

    Well I was doing a bit of googling and I was trying to do 16hrs of fasting, where you don't eat anything for 16hrs, but I do have 60mls of semi milk at about 11.30am in my coffee so don't do it properly, have also been looking at 24hr fasting which I might try on Friday. But a normal day for me is coffee about 11ish, when I get around to it after trying to potty train my son and looking after my 17 week old lol then nothing till dinner, a meal of about 300cals, whether it be a micro meal or something else then a cup of tea and a snack about 100ish cals then that's me. But I've only done 3 fast days. Lol I'm no expert and I haven't had a weigh in yet. I was a bit crazy food and drink wise at the weekend, as was at a 30th and a christening so doubt it will be a lot as long as it about a 1lb I will be happy which is what it says you can expect, it's not a quick diet.

    Wow you seem very busy. No chance for you to eat then! I have a 2 and a half year old son and shall be potty training soon. You'll have to share some tips with me :)
    I'm just trying to get an idea how people do the fasting days. Trouble is I like my snacks. Can't do that on fasting days.
    Let me know how you get on with your weigh in.

    I think I lost about 2lbs, will be able yo guage it a bit better next week as i know what I weighed this morning lol :) I defo went over my maintain cals on a couple of my feast days lol being sun and mon, this week should be better. How are you getting on?

    Lol no tips! My son is 3 and has additional needs, prob autism and doesn't communicate, so not the same as every other kid getting potty trained! Mainly staying in and me prompting him every hour etc. No accidents if I prompt but gawd knows how he will get on tried trousers today and had an accident, so left it and went back to naked bottom half. Will try shorts and pants again tomoz.

    So im not the best for tips, ours will be a long journey. :)

    2lbs is great, especially if you say you had a couple of bad days too. A good step in the right direction. I haven't got any scales at home and go to boots on my way to work so I have been getting a print out which I'm putting up so I see every morning. It seems to be a good motivator for me at the moment.
    I had my fast day yesterday, I finished on 559 calories. I really fancied some chocolate and bought myself those kallo Belgium chocolate rice cakes. At 55 calories they are great for my chocolate fix.
    Oh dear on potty training, it's a good time of year for it though if going without trousers! Can't imagine you can go many places without trousers on. :)

    I like the idea of 5.2 and am going to give it a go. I think it will suit me and I have controlled my weight over many years by doing things like it. Basically taking advantage of days when not so hungry. :cool:

    I've been doing 5:2 for 6 weeks, my weight loss is around 1lb per week but the visible loss is amazing! I also had a 12 day all-inclusive holiday in this time and decided that 5:2 would be too much so followed the 16:8 principle, and ate anything I really wanted during my 8 hour feed window and to my surprise gained only 3lbs!!! (It's normally 12-14!!) I lost that 3lb in a week of coming home and feel brilliant (though my shape has changed from indulging!) Since I've been home I'm right back to 5:2 but I'm also trying to fast for 12-16 hours even on feast days as there are so many benefits to fasting!

    Hi, I've been too embarrassed to come on this site this week as I over indulged this week. Went to harvester and had kick in chicken with fries! 980 calories and then had pudding for another 800 odd calories! Then had takeaway pizza in evening. Why do friends always insist on these foods! Lol. I then only did one fast day this week as the day I planned a fast day I started day with headache, I still ate a little amount. Anyway the shame was for nothing cos I lost 1lb. Ok not the greatest but still thought I was putting on this week. It's still a step in the right direction so I'm really pleased. Going to try harder this week. I have planned a bbq this week. Oh dear. What to do? Chicken and vegetable skewers I think.

    Lol dont be embarrassed! Well done on your weight loss. I don't tend to look on here unless it's my fast day lol I weigh in tomoz and today is my fast day :) finished on exactly 500cals :)

    Oh and bbq? Is it your fast day? If not, I wouldn't worry too much, stick with chicken and u can get marinated chicken breasts etc. It is your up day, so im sure you could have one roll, just be sensible prior to it x

    How did you get on with your weigh in?
    I had my fast day today and finished on 569 calories. Not too bad I think.
    The bbq isn't on a fast day so thinking light breakfast and hang on til afternoon for bbq. I don't think it will be too bad. It's just you have a burger, then hot dog, then some chicken etc etc. Gonna have no bread roll but treat myself to some coleslaw instead :)

    Well I have done a week not counting calories to see how I would cope. I definitely need to count this week. I stayed the same. A bit disappointing but I know where I went wrong.
