Anyone got a syn free humous recipe!??!

    I'm in a mad mood for humous, anyone got a recipe?!?! I may need to buy a food processor at lunchtime though ha...!

    Hiya hun,

    I did a bit of a search and came up with this:

    Practically syn-free hummus
    Green day:

    1 cup dry chickpeas
    5 cups water
    6 bay leaves; or so
    ¾ cup Chopped onion
    1 Clove garlic
    1 level tablespoon Tomato puree (0.5syns)
    2 tablespoons Lemon juice
    ¾ teaspoon Ground cumin
    ¼ teaspoon Paprika
    ⅛ teaspoon Cayenne
    ¼ teaspoon Black pepper
    ¾ teaspoon Salt

    Soak chickpeas overnight in loads of water.

    Drain and put in large saucepan, add the five cups of water and bayleaves. Bring to boil then put on medium heat for 1.5 hours or so until chickpeas are soft.

    Drain and then puree with all other ingredients. Add a little water if mixture seems to thick.

    I guess you could leave out the tomato puree if you wanted it completely syn-free :) xx

    I've made this one and it's nice

    • tin of chick peas (drained)
    • chopped roasted red pepper (to save time, you can buy these in jars at the supermarket)
    • 3 cloves of garlic
    • Juice of half a large lemon
    • 1.5 tbsp's of Very low fat fromage frais
    • salt and pepper to taste
    Put all ingredients in food processor and blend until smooth (I tend to pulse it to have more control). If you think it's too thick, you can add in some water and blend. Chill in fridge until needed (at least an hour is good).

    Optional extras
    • jalapeno pepper
    • tsp ground cumin
