Baking - Splenda alternative

Hi,

I love to bake.

At home in the UK I would use Splenda as a substitute to sugar. Thats not possible when I am in Uganda and am looking for some advice on what to do?

Should I use sugar, but less? Is there an alternative ingredient that I could use to add some sweetness?

My husband doesnt like things sweet anyway so typically I would half the sugar in the recipe (when using normal sugar) for cakes and biscuits etc... anyway, but some sweetness is always needed!!

Any ideas?
 
Hi Lakel, personally I much prefer to only add half the amount of sugar in any recipes and I find that quite sufficient.
Sugar addition in most things is all prompted by the manufactures to boost sales and not because it is necessary at all.
As for sweeteners ... I wouldn't touch ANY of them with a barge pole!!
I can tell you that there are many investigations that have been made into these which all have disturbing reports.
