Basics of soup

Ok really thick question but here goes, when you make soup what liquid do you use as a base (before you throw veg ect in)

I have this mental block over soup (you don't want to know what it is if you like soup) and I thought if I made my own I can get past it and enjoy it. So any help with ideas would really be appreciated

It'll all depend what kind of soup your making... Eg if it's lentil then you boil your ham up or chicken.. You'll boil the chicken up or if it's veg you just boil your veg up then add your stock ect.. hope it helps thats just how I do mine maybe add some herbs that you like when your making your base I know some people boil carrots onions and celery up first then blitz it to make stock
