Calorie counting and holidays!

Hi all

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend so far...

I am due to go away for a week shortly and too be honest, I am a little worried in terms of putting weight on whilst I am away.

I know I should't be stressing and should just enjoy myself for the week and get back on track once I return to the UK, however eating out whilst on holiday is one of my favourite things to do and I really do not want to put any weight back on. I also do not want to be a total diet bore and ruin the holiday for my partner and I. It's going to be pretty difficult to count calories so does anyone have any tips!? I was thinking of just eating fruit for breakfast and an apple during the day, which would then allow me to enjoy an evening meal without stressing about the cals so much - any thoughts/words of wisdom?!

Hi Emma,

My advice would be this... if you have saved, found the time and generally this is your only holiday this year then have what you want and forget about dieting for a week, take a total break. If however you are on hols 3 or 4 times a year it can play havoc and put you back to square one each time...

Life's to short if you only have one holiday a year.

last october i lost some weight and went on holiday for a week. i did the 'but im on holiday' thing and ate what i wanted. i put on quite a bit of weight that week, and really have struggled to get it back off. only today[i was so happy when i weighed myself today hehe!!!!!!!] have i got back to my pre october holiday weight!

the reason i choose CC rather then any other diet that its workable every day. it helps build a good relationship with food. it teaching you a new way of eating, rather then a quick fix. So why would u stop on hoilday? u dont have to be stict however do be sensible.

my last holiday i had a salad every other evening. had sensible breakfasts and lunches, and some treats like ice cream.

It's actually my second holiday so far in 2009 and I have a few more planned for the rest of the year, so you're right serafyn, it could certainly play havoc!

I think I am just going to be really careful with what food I eat - maybe like preetone suggests of having a salad on alternate days and also do as much exercise as I can. We have a pool, so I know I'll be able to swim each day and we'll also be doing lots of walking around the town and further afield.

That is a tricky question! I try to be good on holiday generally as I know it's easier to lose weight when swimming or being out all day. I think planning for your evening meal is a good idea. I like to skip the pudding though and have something similar as a treat earlier in the day.

My best tip is "Don't eat icecream" - not ever. Not even as a treat - as it's always eaten as a treat.

I would just say don't go nuts with it. Choose the healthiest options where they are there but don't beat yourself up if you do stray off course. Keep your portion sizes to a normal level. Do your best! You'll be fine! Think of it as normal, sensible eating but just abroad rather than holiday eating, if that makes sense?

Hi Karma, I'm away for a week next Thursday too and am slightly worried about diet. I've decided to eat as normally as I usually do - plenty of fruit, salads and fish. Of course copious amounts of alcohol will probably be involved!!! ;)

Well, I returned from my holiday a couple of weeks ago and I put 2 pounds on (I was in Sicily, so it was very difficult to deny myself those ice creams!). However, I have now lost the 2 pounds from the holiday and a little more, so I'm now officially back on track!!

Well done! I actually lost 2 lbs whilst on holiday :eek: but stayed the same the following week so it evened its self out I suppose. I too am back on track though and am once again fully focused!

Well done for keeping it in check when you were away ladies. Just a 2lb gain is good for a holiday, some people pile on half a stone. And as for losing 2lbs when you're away on your hols...that's fabulous. x x
