Christiana's "persistence not perfection" food diary

Hey! My Christmas was lovely, I ate verrrrry well! :D. Glad yours was good too, I agree, ice cream is the best thing for a sore throat *ahem, Haagen Daaz Pralines & Cream* :). I had a few days off plan, just got back on yesterday, I feel like I've gained too, but NEW START and all that, aiming to go to my first WI on 05/01/11 with a loss!

Soooooo....I went to class tonight and ended up being one of four people to have a loss the first week back to class. :D

I became SOTW kinda by default, as I'd lost the most (4lbs). I pretty much lost what I put on in the last WI (less half a pound), so my misdemeanors over the holiday period sort of balanced itself out.

I revisited my book and I actually lost 4st 13.5lbs | 69.5lbs from June 16th - December 21st....I just happened to gain 25lbs of it back.... :(

Upon reflection, it seems my body has an "issue" with pasta (dried, white). I've gone through my food diary where the gains have occured, and that's pretty much what stands out (separate from any flexi-days etc.)

So, I did a little experiment. On one of my recent "off" days I had pasta over 2 days. Normal, free cooked-without-fat-eat-till-you're-full pasta. Not good. Severe bloating and discomfort...sure enough, the scales weren't my friend after that.

Earlier this week, I experimented again, by having pasta on one day (twice) although in smaller portions. Voila! I lost this week. HOWEVER, there was still some discomfort after eating it. So, pasta may be a big no no for me. I'm hoping to own ALL my losses after this development. I'm going to talk more about it with the doc too, make sure I'm not alergic or 'sensitive' to anything. I'm not a big bread-eater, but I'll experiment with that too, so no more crazy gain surprises. May have to try wholemeal pasta and the gluten-free stuff as well.

I survived the first WI of the year! YAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Alright, only 51 WI's to go....

well done on the loss! you could be right about the pasta thing, get it checked out may work wonders!

That's really interesting, maybe you have a gluten intolerance, even if only a slight one?
Perhaps you could start replacing pasta with rice instead...
I hope you do manage to get to the bottom of it - I know you've found it so frustrating having unfair gains.

And a mahoosive well done on your loss and SOTW - well done!!

Thanks guys! I've heard of gluten intolerance, not really researched it, but I'll ask the doc about that too. I think because I was eating so badly before, maybe it's always been there and I just never noticed? When you're eating healthier, it's easier to pinpoint where things may be going awry. There's a lady in my class who says all she has to do is look at bread and she gets bloated. She can't even have the 2 HEXb slices!

We had a fuller-than-normal class last night - lots of NY resolution newbies! Hope you're all excited! Just think how many pounds we could be down this time next year! :D

I'm so glad I didn't wait to rejoin SW...I'm glad I did it in June. I could have been one of those 'newbies' in class last night, 48.5lbs (probably more!) heavier!

Wow you sound so motivated! I'm going to pinch some of your buzz!! You're totally right too!!

Definitely research gluten intolerance, a guy at work had it and just kept getting tired all the time and had a really bad tummy. Once diagnosed he can manage it and feels 100 times better. In fact I've seen a thread on the main forum from an old member Sally cinnamon. She said she was diagnosed earlier last year - might be worth giving her a shout.
Another great day btw - you go girl!

Thanks Sarah! Take as much buzz as you need! :vibes: :D

I think it's important to document the highs, so when we're feeling a little out of sorts, we can pinch a little motivational buzz back! :giggle:

I'll have a search now on the forum, see if I can find any useful posts.

Hi Christiana, well done on your great loss to date, i must admit that as soon as I stop eating bread (esp white bread) my stomach deflates within a couple of days, as soon as I start eating bread again, i am bloated and often get upset stomach. Out of interest, have you tried the wholemeal pasta? my cousin cannot tolerate refined pasta, rice etc but can eat small portions of the wholemeal varieties

Hope gp gets it sorted out soon, good luck for next WI, donna

ps must try your bovril roast potatoes soon x

Thanks Donnajt! I have tried wholemeal pasta, although it was a long while ago. Might have to revisit it!
