Confused re Protein Intake

Hi - have read and re-read the page in the Atkins book regarding daily protein intake (p51) but still can't get my head around it.
I'm 5ft 6 so recommended range is 75-156g and typical intake is 450g but what does this mean?
75-156g is nothing on this diet so not sure how much protein I should be aiming for or does it matter?

I never bothered with that really, I just ate until I was full and counted my carbs only.
 
I do the same as Jim. I've had years of weighing everything :( If I'm losing weight it's working
