Crazy idea?

I'm not really sure how to find out how stupid an idea I've just had.

I like a challenge, and I like something to work towards. So I was thinking that I might walk the Oldham Way (near where I live), and raise some money for charity in the process.

I was thinking of doing a race for life or something, but I've missed that for this year.

So I'm thinking of doing it in Sept/Oct. It's 40 miles (gulp!) and it's described as 'challenging'. And it is VERY hilly.

Is it a really stupid idea to think I can do that in one day? Or would two days be more realistic, or is that just wimping out? I don't want to be a chicken, but I don't want to be the over-confident idiot that has to be rescued by mountain rescue in the middle of the night either!

Have you tried googling it to see if anyone else has done it? its always worth seeing what others have done to set yourself up.

Some guys at work just completed the 3 peaks challenge in 22.5hours and they were training for months! Well worth it and they raised over 1k :)
