Daily/Hourly Massive Weight Fluctuation Question

Hiya, I wonder if anyone can please tell me how and why my weight can fluctuate by up to a stone over the course of a day?!!

I know you're only supposed to weigh yourself weekly, but I did a whole day on Sole Source yesterday, and gained 9llbs during the night?!! I'm totally baffled as to how it can fluctuate to such an extent..

I presume the best time to weigh youself is first thing in the morning, but it can be deceptive as I can be up to a stone lighter then than I am by lunchtime - which is my true weight?!!

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer...

A litre of water weighs 2lb, so with all the water you're drinking on SS your weight should be going up and down like crazy over the course of a day.

The best thing is to always weigh at the same time of the day. I most people seem to weigh naked in the mornings after a wee etc. that then becomes your true weight!

Yes, always weigh at the same time of day, but with a gain of a stone, I would seriously suggest getting a new pair of scales:eek:

It took me ages to find a pair that didn't read a 4-5lbs gain within seconds of weighing. So many are very inaccurate.

Try standing slightly further forward or backwards on the scales and watch your weight change before your very eyes.
My scales weigh lighter if I lean right back I think you will find it is the same with most. Also hard and soft surface under the scales makes one hell of a difference.

Same here!

I weigh myself in the mornings but my CDC weighs me on an evening when I've gained up to half a stone over the course of the day ... not fair really .... so I've been ignoring the weigh ins at hers (as my scales say the same as hers in the evenings too) and just weighing in the morning otherwise I would only have lost 7lb in 3 weeks! (I actually cried!)
Weighing in at morning time I've lost 10 lb in 3 weeks ... which is more likely eh?

Exactly ... weigh in the morning if I were you! :)

LOL I also do acrobatics on the scale to try to get an extra lb or two lower haha ;)

Definitely weigh after 1st wee in the morning this is your "true weight"! xx

I can get my own scales (different from my counsellor scales) to weigh differently depending on which foot I step on with first!

That's great - thanks very much for your replies...

I spent a small fortune on my scales recently so I'm now going to try various balancing acts on them and see what happens... I'll let you know!

I got curious about this as a colleague said to me the other day that her weight had been 10stone 4llbs since she was 16, and she'd never fluctuated by so much as a pound. She is adamant that no matter what she eats or drinks her weight is constant. That totally confused me as I can gain a pound after a cup of black coffee...?!!!

xx

You can cheat your weight down on an evening weighing by squeezing your drinking earlier into the day (or put it off till later, but that means half the night spent traipsing to the loo). I used to have some very variable scales (if you knelt on them instead of standing you'd be 3lbs lighter!), but now have digital ones which are much more reliable.

Scales - friend or foe????

I wonder whether these should not be banned from all of us! We all do it, despite telling one another ' water retention' etc etc! Yet why oh why do we put ourselves through the torture of either weighing less on our scales & more at class or counsellor, more loss on ours than theirs etc etc   !

I do it myself - yet try to reassure others that its not a great thing to do, I am currently thinking I should throw them out then get a new set when I'm at target to perhaps maintain!

It probably is water retention - but when you see any increase its so hard not to feel dissapointed & frustrated!

Try not to do it.... :) xxx

Yup....don't trust manual or old scales. I went to HUGE amounts of effort to get the right scales. Very simple, digital scales. No fancy fat/water measuring thingies just plain scales. Mine sit on carpet but have specialist carpet feet. I was still worried they weren't accurate but I have just got my beloved fat blob which weighs 5lbs to the ounce on my scales so I'm pleased they're accurate.

So I'd recommend Salters High Capacity scales for accuracy on hard and soft floors.:D but if you are getting a scales addiction and it bothers you when you see a gain....just chuck the scales!! think about them later on....:)

I can vouch for this
Ive got evil manual scales and I seriously put on half a stone through every day and by morning its all gone again. very annoying, Plus my scales tell me different than my CDC scales Now I dont bother even going on them, I just wait for my weigh ins and trust the lovely scales my CDC has, :)
