Diary of a Comfort Eater

Ever since I can remember food has been there, to be the fun times, the sad times and the bored times. I guess it is like a safety blanket, my tool for coping, sadly it has become more of a vice than anything else.

I have always been big, since I was little I have been the "cuddly" one. Now I am twenty and I need to change something quick, I don't want to spend my life hiding in the shaddows.

I can honestly say I've never been happy with my shape, and it doesn't help that some of my friends have amazing bodies. I feel intimidated shopping with them (always hide the lable) and when you eat with them. It doesn't matter if they are eating more than you, it always feels like you are being judged just because you are big.

So that leads me to my diet, which is a modified version of a vlcd. I am on Slim and Save, however at the weekends I will be low carb as this way I will be able to socialise and I won't freak out if I have somethings I shouldn't. Abstaining from alcohol doesn't bother me, I don't really drink anyway.

Over the first two weeks I have lost a stone, which is great! Unfortunately my uncle has been very ill and passed away, so I have been off the band wagon with some comfort eating. (Cookies and crisps, are a big vice when they are in your Grandparents kitchen!!) The funeral is today so hopefully after tomorrow I can get back on it, after all life is short and we have to make the most of it.

I hope that I can continue this journey unlike previous falls at the smallest hurdle. I need to get my head arround the fact that I need this! This is a small way to get the lifestyle I want, the start of a healthier life.

I don't believe in New Years resolutions, but if I did it would be to crack on with the dieting!

Hopefully if I use this forum more, I will be more motivated as the acheivements you all have are amazing and the support base is incredible.

Well done Featherweight and welcome aboard. Congratulations to you and soulmate and all the best for the future.

Now listen... don't beat yourself up if you have a little cheat now and again. Mother Nature wouldn't have given us the ability to be sneaky if we didn't use it now and again would she? The thing is that we put it behind us and carry on with the good work

We are all ages shapes and sizes, on here but I have had immense support. I'm sure with your attitude you will make it. Happy Christmas to you, and a slimmer 2012.

Hi featherweight, sorry to hear of the loss of your Uncle.
Your weight loss is great, well done.
It has taken me a long long time to realise, fad diets are exactly what I don't need - I needed a complete radical lifestyle change. Currently I am just watching what I eat and exercising more and touch wood it seems to be working, I have a goal to work for which keeps me so determined. Do you have any goals? Even small ones like fit in a size smaller or to wear a piece of clothing you would never nave normally worn etc, can keep you really motivated and give you something to aim for.
Wishing you all the luck with your journey I will pop back on to see how you are doing :)
