Does anyone's counsellor actually "counsel" them?

I'm newbie to CD (day 1 today) and just wondered what support people get from their CDC?

My counsellor has said that through this process she wants me to learn to deal with emotions (be it boredom, shame, loneliness etc) directly rather with food so that when the weight comes off and I restart conventional food I am developing the lifestyle habits and beliefs that naturally slim people have around food (my sister being a prime example of such a person). She says that if I end up coming back to her in the future after weight loss that she will, in essence, have failed me as a counsellor.

What do others do with their counsellors? Do you find yourself thinking differently? Behaving differently?

My consultant just weighs me, asks me how I'm getting on with the diet, and gives me the products. I'm fine with that.

Mine is the loveliest counsellor ever, but she hasn't given me any counselling. When I started she gave me a registration pack which included a long list of questions about working towards and achieving a goal, and i've found them very helpful; and I know she's there for me if I struggle, but thats enough for me.

The first time I did CD, my CDC was fantastic. She wasn't overbearing or anything, but she was laways there when I needed her, in person or on the phone.
She also had a very bubbly personality, and it helps :)

I'm seeing my new CDC today, other side of the country, and I hope she'll be just as good :)

@ Angelchops.. did she email it to you by any chance? If so would you be willing to share it? I'm doing a CBT work book but anything that helps with challenging changing my subconscious behaviours from negative to positive would be gratefully received :)

She didn't email it, but i'd be happy to tell you. Some questions aren't that relevant to CD but others were really good and made me think. I have got LOADS of weight to lose so anything like this is good for me.

    1) What specifically do you want with your goal?
    2) Where are you now in relation to that goal?
    3) What will you see and hear when you have that goal?
    4) What will you feel when you have that goal?
    5) Do you truly believe you will ever have that goal?
    6) What steps do you need to take to get to that goal?
    7) How will you know when you have reached your goal?
    8) What will getting to goal actually allow you to do?
    9) Are you sure you want this?
    10) Is this only for you?
    11) Are you in charge of the result?
    12) Where, when, how and with whom do you want the result?
    13) Are there any drawbacks to getting this result?
    14) What personal resources do you have that will allow you to achieve this result?
    15) Do you know anyone who has achieved the same goal?
    16) What resources did they have that you can use?
    17) Imagine you have that goal now, what resources did you use to get that goal?
    18) Imagine you have that goal now, what advice can you give yourself to make the journey as easy as possible?
    19) What will happen if you get your goal?
    20) What won't happen if you get your goal?
    21) What will happen if you don't get your goal?
    22) What won't happen if you don't get your goal?

Goreygirl couldyou tell me what a CBT workbook is?

I would of loved it if my CDC was like that when I was following CD! Do you mind if I copy these down and write for myself?

    Great thanks!

Berryred... read thedietguy.co.uk... i've just discovered him; he's been where we are and his blog posts are great! Less of a diary and more about challenging beliefs and behaviours to help you slim and maintain.

@ Angelchops - thanks so much - will be adding these to my workbook :)

Sorry Angel .. didn't see this initially.

CBT stands for cognitive behaviour therapy which means learning how to identify negative beliefs/behaviours, how to challenge them and how to turn them into more positive healthy ones. Has been proved by research to be very instrumental in helping people maintain new lifestyle behaviours. There's various workbooks out there but a good online resource is livinglifetothefull.com (which is clinically validated).

Cognitive-behavioural Therapy (CBT) | Health | Patient UK probably explains it better :)
