Eating slowly

    I don't know if this has been discussed before - I'm not sure how to find out what topics have been posted in the past. But it is recommended to eat more slowly, and really savour food.... I have been listening to a well known hypnosis CD telling me this for ages, and it is still one thing I really struggle with! In fact the nicer my food is the quicker I eat it as if I feel guilty for enjoying it, then it is gone.... where if I had taken my time I could have enjoyed it for longer. does this bother anyone else?:eek: x

    Before that hypnotist was even born my mother was telling my elder siblings to eat slowly. There is a logic to it: takes approximately 20minutes for the tummy to tell the brain it is *full*.

    My DH is a real piggy when it comes to puddings/desserts: his 'trick' is to use a teaspoon instead of a dessertspoon to eat it with so it takes twice as long to eat it ( a teaspoon is half the capacity of a dessertspoon).

    An Edwardian 'trick' was to count to a certain number of chews per mouthful (20? 40?)

    I think you just need to find a 'trick' which works for you :)

    I may try my grandsons' small cutlery, I always forget to count chews!

    I used to work with a man who was so infuriating with his slow eating, but I so envied him! we used to secretly count how many times he chewed his food, the record was 42 chews on one piece of banana and 120 on a spoon full of mueseli. I tried but just ended up with a mouth full of mush after about 10!:D

    :D :D :D that's the whole point! All that chewing is burning calories and that "mush" makes digestion easier ;)

    Well, a couple of weeks in and I am still not getting any slower! Must keep on trying ha-ha!

    I eat annoyingly slow, and I'm very overweight, if you're happy eating as you are, then continue. Maybe just try to be aware of when you're feeling nicely full (not stuffed) but I doubt it really makes much difference to be honest, and psychologically a smaller plate might work better. :) x
