Just wondered, does anyone know why its not okay to have 'smoked' mackerel - ive noticed that fresh and canned is ok, but not if its smoked?? wonder why??

maybe the smoking process does something to the oils in the fish ... dunno really, we are allowed smoked salmon (and I like hot smoked..) though, so that gets me through the smoked fish craving moments ...

Unfortunately it's not free:

I love it, but when you cook it it does ooze oil. I would imagine they add salt as well. But there is a recipe somewhere to make pate with it (with cottage cheese?) and then it dilutes the syn value.

I love mackerel - but cannot find it anywhere 'unsmoked' its free if you have 'unsmoked' but I went shopping this morning and all the fresh stuff is smoked :(

I had fresh mackerel from my fishmonger only yesterday. good price at the moment too - two fish for £2, bargain!
