Extreme Hair Loss & Now Losing Eyelashes :(

♥3 Years Maintaining♥
So ever since losing all my weight last year i have lost well over 50% of my hair i reckon and these past few weeks my eyelashes are beginning to get thinner and thinner and they too are falling out at a ridiculous rate.

I did put this down to coming off LT last summer as i know it can be a side affect of being on a TFR diet but then i got back on it and now i am maintaining the hair loss still hasnt stopped. It's still falling out in massive clumps.

Anyone know what i can do besides vitamins etc?

Im kinda thinking ive some form of alopecia (sp?)

Is this something that the doc can help with? How would i go about getting a condition like that confirmed?

oh sweetie thats awful and a big hit to you self esteem in sure! id go to the doctor straight away or even better if you can get an appointment with a hair specialist trichologist and see what they have to say?? get back to us with whatever they say xx good luck xx

Hey sweetie - that doesn't sound good. I know I lost a LOT of my hair after coming off LT the first time, my hair was actually getting thin and you've seen how much hair I have! It did stop and filled out again but it took quite a long time if I remember correctly. If you're worried I'd say pop along to your doc - then if it is alopecia they should be able to tell you. If it's anything else I'd say do what bells has suggested.

Hope you get it sorted hun!

This is something im really worried about myself. Was your hair thick or thin to start with?
Like the others have said, i would go to the doctors and see what they have to see. Chances are they will tell you its because of LT and will get better in time :)

It must be worrying so a doctors opinion might reassure you better.

Hey Tanya,

I'm a new poster, so my additions might take a while to get up, and you may get these answers before, so forgive if there's repetition.

There are supplements called Nourkrin that are really good. I've had hair extensions for 7 years and take them to stop my hair becoming too fine and delicate and thus pulling out with the weight of the extensions (and I've got very fine hair as it is). They take about 6 months to work, and so it's something you need to take for the long haul, while also getting the problem checked out. I see someone mentioned a trichologist and yes, that's your way forward - along with a doctor (I'm a former beauty journalist, so this is my 'home turf' :)!)

Nourkrin are good though - they work on strengthening the hair you have from the root, and building up the hair in future. And it's not that I notice a difference when I take them, it's that things really do deteriorate for me if I don't.

Good luck!
Melanie

hey grovergirl1 and welcome just a quick question have you heard of perfectil hair skin and nails are they any good,,ive stocked up with some for after tfr..:)

Thanks guys.

I just think im guna feel a little silly going to the doc over me losing my hair.

My hair did start to grow back, and is growing back as i have small tufty bits on the top of my head but as quick as they are coming through the rest of my hair is coming out quicker along with my eyelashes (which i loved and were always my favourite feature - i was forever getting asked were they real! :giggle:)

Gem i know your hair is lovely - i didnt realise you lost some too? Has yours been fine ever since?

Mine just doesnt seem to want to grow back.
My hairdresser wont dye my roots for fear of it all breaking and not withstanding the bleach - what an earth do i do???

My hair was okish before - not overly thick but nowhere near thin.

grovergirl - where do i get the pills you are on about? Are they expensive? x

Hi there, and thanks for the welcome! :)

I've been on here for a bit, but only getting around to the posting by degrees :) Must work out emocons etc next!!

Yes, I've heard of Perfectil but don't have first hand experience. It's meant to be one of the better ones though and has been around a good while, which in itself is a good sign.

It's certainly worth trying if you have it, as it's not going to do any harm. Only thing I've heard is that with these products, you get, er, how does one say this, more hirsute *everywhere*...!!! ahem. Not a problem for most of us, but worth considering if you are very dark or have lots of hair.

Let us know how you get on... And remember, it'll take a long time to get a result, at least 3 or 4 months, so do stay consistently taking them.

Lordy, it's really not easy being a woman, is it?!?

Hey there Tanya,

I'm based in Ireland, so not much use to you, but here's a weblink
Nourkrin Extra Strength (from £29.99) Hair loss treatment - remedy thinning hair naturally.

They're the sort of supplements you get in health shops though, so not horribly chemical and scary... I'm looking at a box on my desk and the ingredients are 'extract of protein compound of marine origin, silica and acerola cherry extract', so all healthy gear.

It'll defo boost the new hair though, which means it'll be in better nick and ready for colour faster. If your hairdresser is against colouring for now, and much and all as it might kill you, I'd listen. Maybe you can keep the front blonder and tone down the back until it strengthens? It's a bummer, and I've been that soldier too, from overprocessing. Also, ask your hairdresser about a keratin treatment (that's the protein that hair is made from). He/she might have a suggestion for that to build up your hair.

As for your eyelashes - don't worry about them, they have a 1-month turnaround or something, so get the right vits and minerals into you and you'll be Bambi-esque again in no time :)

*Hugs*

Hey Tanya - replied, but I think it's with the moderator... I'd posted a weblink... will repost if it doesn't appear... Melanie

Tanya,

I would definately see your GP. I had alopeca a long time ago, and it was only spotted by my hairdresser. I went to my GP, who gave me a special shampoo, and it has been great ever since. Hope all goes well, but please get it checked out

Hey Tanya

Know how you are feeling sweet, when I finished TFR and started to eat again my hair was falling out in clumps (I actually cried and broke down in the shower) If it is TFR related, then I can say that my hair stopped falling out at about a month after- it fell out evenly though so I didnt have patches, but i do reccommend you see the dr. I went and saw my gp and although she knew about my time on lipotrim she tested me for several things, hormone check (as my periods had stopped completely), diabetes, liver profile, gall bladder, anaemia, full blood check, kidney function and gallbladder. Needless to say I had my results in 3 days and they all came back clear. my gp suggested that It was a side effect of LT and that it would stop eventually. she told me to take extra vitamins and fill up on foods high in zinc and protein.

It may just be the case for you too. So sorry to hear you down about it, I know you were on LT alot longer than me, but try not to panic too much as it can make it worse.

Let us know how you get on
Best wishes
Jodie xx

oh no tan :( :( :(

I really think everyone has given good advice but definatley seek advice of your doctor!!

Dont worry about feeling silly.. Id rather feel silly than have something that could have been treated and leave it! xx

Me again! Tanya have a sort of suggestion for an interim hair colour solution for you... a pic... not sure how to get it over to you?

Melanie :)

Hi babe,

I have really thick hair and when I did LT for 3 months, when I came off I lost hair for about 3 month. My hair thinned out a lot, but it didnt go patchy or anything.

How long where you on LT for the last time? A couple of months? I think you should probably mentally prepare yourself that it could last 2 months. But deffo go to your doctor and get the vitamin tablets as recommended above.

The worst thing to do is get too stressed about it, there are some really cool hair extensions and pieces that you can get, maybe try experimenting with these. They look cool!!! :)

I always notice that your posts are also so full of energy and positivity, so you have done so well to achieve your goal, I hope that this is a minor set back and a small and short price to pay for your lovely new slim figure.

Stay cool babe xoxoxox

I was on LT for 5 months to start with then a further 2 months .... so 7 months in total. It fell out really bad last summer after i had done 5straight months on TFR then kinda stopped but now it just seems to be coming out again .. and now im not even on TFR and havnt been since 9th november.

Thanks for the reply about my positivity - my hair loss is a small price to pay but i feel so good about the rest of me losing my hair is a minor set back. The worst is losing my eyelashes. I loved them, now theres hardly any there :(

Hiya Tanya. I'm so sorry to here about your hair loss. I remember when I did it the first time I rang lipotrim because i was worried about this and they told me that the hair loss happens in 3 monthly cycles. Cant remember why exactly but that is why you are experiencing the hair loss now. Give them a ring for some reassurance and also to explain exactly what is happening. Also I would go to the docs just in case they can give you something. You still look absolutely fab in your photos though xx

About 50% my hair came out when I came off first time round, grew back after about 7-8 months and now I have a thick bonnet again. Check with your doctor but if your tufts are coming through then at least you know it is growing back when it falls out.

Hi Tanya sweetheart, sorry to hear you are having a problem with hair loss. Last time when i did just 3 weeks my hair fell out terribly for 3 weeks. How long were you on tfr in total? Have you done a web search for info. I am taking vit supplements for hair (from holland and barratts) this time round as a precaution. I really don't think you would be being silly for seeing the doctor, please make an appointment. You are looking so fab huni and doing so well on maintainence please don't get down hearted, im sure this will be a temporary thing and then your hair will be back to normal very soon. lots of love :hug99:and hugs xx

Hi babe,

Well the good thing is you know that this is only temporary, so you will be fine for the spring time I am sure. In the meantime how about false eyelashes, never tried them myself but my mate has and she loves them. My mate went to the beauticians at christmas time and got false eyelashes put on.

I also googled for you and found this

Buy Ardell Brow & Lash Accelerator Treatment Gel Online at drugstore.com

Might be of use to help your eyelashes grow back.

You will be cool babe xox
