The family have arranged to go to a restaurant on Sunday to celebrate a birthday, I just checked the website coz I want to plan ahead by looking at the menu to see what would be kind of ok (or at least low syn anyway). Now that Ive done that the menu looks awful, have no idea what to pick... have put a screen shot below so any advice would be muchly appreciated!!!!

Go for the steak, ask for it not to be cooked in oil or butter - don't get the onions or mushrooms(probably loaded with butter or oil too) and ask for a side salad with dressing on the side(have done this with many a set menu, they have been very accommodating!) - I would syn the steak at 6 as rib eye does have some fat in it..,

Maybe the gnocchi? That's potato based. I would ask them to put the parmesan in a bowl on the side, and not eat the garlic bread. I wouldn't like to guess on syns though!

i would call the place and explain that you need a Caeser salad with no dressing or cheese..... and ask if you can have a salad to start with if you feel left out.........

You could always go for the Beer battered cod goujons, if you remove the batter the fish is free, mushy peas are free and you can have a side order of seasonal vegetables or ask them for a salad? It's served with balsamic syrup which you could just ask them to leave out and have vinegar or ask for a lemon slice instead to make it tastier?

Ceaser salad wouldn't be terrible syn wise with dressing served on side, then you apply your own sparingly.

I would maybe skip the starter, or go for the soup of the day if it isn't cream based.

On the other hand, you could always just use flexi syns and accept that you're going to have a treat and enjoy your meal with the family? Since you can't really syn food not cooked by you anyway, doesn't mean you can't make sensible choices from your options.

    Hope that helps :)

I was considering going for the scampi with a side of veg and the tartare sauce with lemon - no starter btw and I can just stick to diet coke as im driving so wine wont be a problem. It doesnt happen v often going out with the family so I suppose i can use minimal syns up to then and do extra exercise, if i pick that i wouldnt like to think it would be a whole weeks worth of syns but its always a difficult one though to try and juggle but I thought it was best to do my research first and have a look at the menu beforehand instead of just turning up and not having a clue. Does this sound ok?

Thanks for the advice ladies :) much appreciated x

That is exactly what I was going to suggest. A flexi-syn day sounds best to me. That way, you can relax a little and enjoy your family meal out, without stressing too much over the number of syns. Enjoy it luv xx

The goats cheese in filo pastry sounds wonderful - filo pastry is not too high in syns. And the caesar salad with dressing served separately would be good too.

With all due respect-you've eaten it now, so the syn value is a bit irrelevant! Just start afresh-it was only one day out of your life :)
