Fat cell numbers 'set for life' (??)

I thought this had been established to be the case since the late 1960's.
adulta don'ymake or lose fat cells ...the individual cells merely get biggerr or maller.
same with muscle...the active fibres don't replicate whe we train, merely magnify their contractile power.
what I don't understandabout the rather silly article is how they can draw any conclusion about the ease or difficulty of losig weight from the fact that fat cell numbers don't change...
 
Yes, I too felt that fat cells only expanded / contracted after puberty, I didnt read anything in the article that would convince me to change that view
