having my wisdom tooth out on tuesday

Best of luck for tomorrow Jen. Will be thinking about you.

well, the wisdom tooth thing went very well yesterday morning. had conscious sedation and cant remember a thing about it. dental surgeon did a very neat job by all accounts cos i didnt even have stitches. they dont give you antitibotics these days, just ibuprofen, but all seemed to be recovering nicely.

that is until the evening when i started to get an earache on the other side. put it down to being related, went to bed and then woke up at 3am this morning in absolute AGONY. luckily my dad is here and he rushed me to A&E. i was bawling like a baby. turns out i have something called bullous myringitis and i have blisters on my eardrum in the inner ear. he said no wonder you're in pain. i thought "no sh*t. you're telling me?!" it was such a rare case he got the junior doctor in to test her on it. nice to feel useful....

anyway they gave me co-codamol and first dose of antibiotics. you cant get this kind from normal pharmacies so my dad has to go back to the hospital pharmacy today to get the rest of the course.

i also have to have an ENT specialist appt in the next few days as there's a risk of hearing damage.

and it is totally unrelated to my tooth and probably started as a virus.

there was me hoping for a nice few days off with ice cream and managable pain then BHAM. i am not a happy bunny. i can't even eat properly and my tummy is full of tablets so no doubt that will start to suffer soon too.

AAAARRRGGGHHHH!

just thank god my dad is here to look after me. was going to go back to wiltshire with him for the rest of the week to recouperate if i'd been better today but that isn't going to happen now. i'm not going anywhere.

sleeping is no fun either because my face hurts from tooth on one side and ear on the other. my body could have at least kept all the crap to one side of my body, surely?!

so that's me. miserable, as you can imagine. thanks for all your kind words

Massive hugs to you hun, what a nightmare for you.

Hope the antib's settle in v v v soon for you x x

Oh Jen, i feel so sorry for you. Is dad gonna stay with you? need some one round to take care of you. Big (((Hugs)))

EAC :: Bullous Myringitis :: 1

if you're not too squeamish, this is what's going on inside my ear (thanks rach!)

still in loads of pain and struggling to eat much because the antibiotics are making me feel nauseous. hopefully another 24 hours and i might be a bit better. for now it's still a lot of pain, a temperature, a severe lack of sleep and a very sorry for herself jen!

x

Glad you're being looked after. Keep us updated when you're feeling better.

feeling a bit better today. yesterday was awful. felt so nauseous on all the medication i actually tried to make myself sick. but cos i hadnt eaten much apart from co-codamol, it wasnt happening. today i have an appetite on and off but as my food choices are still limited to mushy cos of the tooth hole, it's tricky! i think i may lose a few pounds. something good has to come of this!

still in a lot of pain and dizzy a lot (typical ear problem) but seem to be getting better, not worse.

plan to wear something other than a dressing gown and maybe even leave the house tomorrow, cos i'm going stir crazy!
x

Hi Jen - just caught up with this....so sorry you've had a horrid time! I hope you're beginning to feel better now - just make sure you get some food in (however mushy!) with those painkillers.

Look after yourself.....I'd stick with the dressing-gown and the telly!
x

on the mend, hopefully

thanks, lesly.

feeling a lot more human today. put on clothes and make up, went into town with my dad and had a coffee and did a little bit of retail therapy. definitely a lot more human and have halved my co-codamol dose (was probably overdosing) and also have more appetite. am very aware of my tooth hole today. ear pain must have been distracting me from it before!!

so a chilled out weekend ahead and hopefully i'll be ok for work on monday. my dad, who came up monday to take me to hospital for my tooth op and has been here ever since, is going home tomorrow. and my sister's going to stay tomorrow night, so i should be ok. i'd hope the ea can only get better, not worse at this stage. still no word on my follow-up ENT appt but we are talking NHS...

Good to hear you're going to be well looked-after this weekend. Don't be afraid to pester ever-so-politely about your NHS appointment - I managed to shut a waiting room up the other day when I sweetly chipped in that I had actually been waiting 1.5 hours for my appointment....but my previous private appt with same man cost me £150....what to do?
x

it's a weird one cos i went to A&E intitially, the doc wrote up my notes, gave them to me to give to A&E reception on the way out, that will somehow find its way to ENT and they will apparently be in touch with next available appt. now considering this is to check i have no hearing damage you'd think it wdnt be too long. will see if i get a letter in the post tomorrow and if not,c all them up monday, just to check ENT know who i am!

They're in a world of their own, bless them....I was told to visit a department to make an appointment for some procedure, and they said it would take 4-6 weeks....oh, okay. Then two days later got a letter saying appointment at 2 pm in 5 days' time.....huh? I can rearrange my diary just like that, when I'm already taking one day a week off for other varied procedures? And they were soooo put out..."we need to put in a reason why you can't make it"....

Ah well, if it's weird for we patients, just pity the poor doctors....

Hope your weekend goes well. Bye for now....

They're in a world of their own, bless them..

You can say that again:rolleyes:

On the good side, I have my final check after my wisdom tooth extraction next week, then a bit of luck they sign me off:cool:

Sill waiting for gallbladder results from 3rd Jan though:(

Only twice, but it was a bit of a different extraction. Well, you know me:rolleyes:

yes, you and your teeth, you dont do these things by halves. mine went so well. conscious sedation, cant remember a thing after the injection, no stitches, no bleeding after leaving hospital. i was so scared as well. no need..
