hi hazysummer, great recipes. i noticed you use butter mainly on your jackets, have you heard of butterbuds? you can get them on ebay, they do a trial pack for about £3.50 for 10 sachets. the sachet is 0.5syns, which would save you some syns. they are no good on toast but melt nicely on jacket or mashed potatoes and do have a buttery taste. heres the ebay link.

I've got a trial pack coming - but post takes forever here!
I think though, if I'm going to keep the weight off after I lose it, I need to get good portion control to be a habit when it comes to butter...so am happy to syn it a couple of times a week!

Paprika pork – old favourite! (2.5 for me) nom nom nom
Adapted slightly for SW and for 2 greedy piggies, so

3 medium onions
1.5 tbsp olive oil (HEB)
350g pork fillet
2 tablespoons paprika
300ml chicken stock
100ml crème legere (5) - no idea what UK equivalent is – its close to light crème fraiche crossed with UHT tinned cream


  • Heat oil in pan, add onions, fry for 10-15 mins stirring occasionally until softened and lightly coloured.
  • Cut the pork into bite size chunks then add to the pan and stir over a fairly high heat to seal and brown them all over.
  • Stir in the paprika, cook briefly and add stock and bring to the boil.
  • Cover and cook for 30-35 mins until the pork is tender. Stir in the crème fraiche and simmer for 2 mins

Note: paprika must be fresh, not ancient stuff dug out of the back of the cupboard or it just tastes dusty

(my sis’s OH is veggy, and they’ve made it with quorn and mushrooms – less stock and less cooking time)
