help with a riddle please

Evening everyone,
My OH has been given a riddle by someone he works with and it is driving him crazy.. therefore he is driving me crazy. Does anyone know the answer to this please?

I was doing some shopping the other day and I found that while 2 would cost me £2 I could get 15 for £4 or 120 for £6- what do you think I was buying?

The clue is: he was in a hard ware shop like B&Q

I would really appreciate your help with this just to get him to stop telling me how frustrated he is! lol

1000 will cost you £8

he was buying numbers for a door/gate.. £2 per number
so the number '2' would be just £2
15, a '1' and a '5' is £4
120 a '1', '2' and '0' is £6
