how do you know when to start a new "day"?

I've always been curious about which way is best to work out when Day 1 becomes Day 2 on my calculator/tracker.
I usually count a day from the moment i wake up, until the moment i go to sleep. I have a weird sleeping pattern you see!! Does anyone know, am i doing the whole changing days thing right, or should i just go by actual days (when the clock strikes 12). Hope this makes sense!!
 
A day for me is wake up till sleep same as u
 
I work shifts so I also do it from waking up to getting in bed..... Bit of a pain when your tracking at 4 am in the morning but used to it now :) Xxx
 
I class my day as waking up to going to sleep but I think as long as you change/are already changed to a new day after 24hours after the first I'm sure it doesn't affect weight loss.
