How hard is the first week?

I'm waiting to start the diet, and i was wondering, honestly, how hard is it to get through the first week?

Hi there

To be honest I didn't find it too bad at all. I had a thumping headache on day two but took some tablets and had an early night, apart from that it was okay. Focus on the excitement of your first weigh in!

Gxx

hi i am on w8 but there much the same the first wk is hard i think some seem to sail thro it but the 2nd and the 5th days were worst for me but when the ketosis kicks in it is easier i read all these posts that said that and never thot id get there but you do honestly just keep drinking and keep busy on here it helps a lot good luk lesley x

How do people cope with family eating dinners? do you crave food? or do you get used to it? sorry to ask loads of questions, i just want to prepare myself!

I'm planning to get lots of rest lol great excuse eh, get hubby 2 cook, kids to clean yeah right that'll be my dream tonight lol
and just keep my water handy and my painkillers for the headaches oh and my laptop to hand for support and rise from my bed in 7 days for my wi lol

If all above fail then just shakes, water, laptop and early nights sod the cleaning lol hubby WILL cook or he'll starve pmsl

I think it depends on your mindset, so much of this diet is in your head as you don't feel physically hungry. Family meals or nights out didn't overly bother me as I was determined and it gave me an enormous feeling of being in control.

I cooked today its my 1st day and I was starving but reminded myself WHY i am doing this and drank my water and had my chicken soup in a bowl while they ate their burger n mash felt better knowing I didnt resist and having her soup or shake with family will still allow u to feel normal and socialise at the table.

Not sure if that helps ask me again in 4 or 5 days lol

Thank you for your replies. Also your photo's Porgeous are a great inspiration. I have a real problem thinking that i could ever be slim, as i have always been very over weight. But your photo's show that it can happen!.

I am my first week of a restart - day 3 - each day gets easier and as soon as ketosis kicks in you dont feel a thing!
Its like having anaesthetic at the dentist - a little pain to start with then nothing!
With family meals - if it becomes unbearable - dish up and leave - I treat myself to a bubbly bath, a magazine and enjoy the peace and quiet!
good luck!

Thank you hun and YES it definately can happen, go for it! xx

I found the first week hard in that I was so very tired (sleeping 12-14 hours a day!) and headachey from carb and caffeine withdrawal ... but because I was so determined to make it work I never felt tempted to eat something. So from that point of view it was easier as at the beginning your willpower and drive is at its peak.

I found it very motivating to step on the scales every day of that first week because you do lose weight SO quickly, having a headache seemed worth the scales just jumping down like that.

to be honest i didnt find the 1st week bad at all, headache on day 2 but that was about it, I love to cook so I just cook but dont eat it, again dodnt seem to be a problem most days. good luck hunni.xx

I found day three the hardest in terms of hunger, but was ok as long as just glugged down the water. I have to cook for my three children and dh and don't find it hard at all now. In fact I quite enjoy it in a funny sort of way. I like the smell of the food but am not tempted to eat any. I don't tend to sit and eat with them but have a few minutes to myself whilst they are having dinner.
Good luck

i'm on my first day today and so far so good. I think mental attitude is a huge factor with CD - staying positive is often the hardest thing!!

Good Luck Helen - this site takes your mind off eating (and everything else unfortunately, including housework!) :D

i have my meeting with my cdc tomorrow. Do you start the diet straight away? Is it wrong to be so excited over the prospect of not eating food??

It is exciting it's true! ;)

People do it differently and you have to do what is right for you. I started the day after seeing my CDC, others do a few days prep reducing carbs, upping water etc. Whilst it is tempting try to avoid a 'last meal' as it will only make day one harder!

If you are enthusiastic then start while the feeling's still with you!!

The first few days are hard. I was grumpy, tired and hungry but it will pass. really. As someone else said - treat yourself in other ways while those around you eat. I go up for a hot, bubbly bath then paint nails etc - lush!

I found that during the first week it was best to have a soup in a bowl as my eve meal as i felt that i was eating something that way. Now i just stick to shakes really.

Just think of those pounds of fat melting away if you feel like giving up - the results are really worth it!

it is defo not wrong lol i couldnt wait. I had such a struggle to get onto Cambridge so when i started last week i was as high as a kite lol. I didnt feel hungry, i fot i would get sore tum with hunger but i just not felt hungry, am not physically hungry, just a bit in my head lol lol lol. U know the reason u are doin it so that makes all the over stuff disappear. Just drink water like ur a fish and u will do good. Come on this as much as u can coz it really helps, all the old posts help answer lots of questions and everyone is amazing. Good luck with tomorrow
sharon xx
