I know I have to do it... so why do I feel so bad...

My consultant is a wonderful woman and has stuck with me through thick and thin (though very little thin of recent times), but I'm thinking that she's not right for me now and I need to find a CDC who suits me better :sigh: She was my CDC when I lost 4st a few years ago, and I've gone back to her a few times since, so I'm feeling a complete traitor to consider going to anybody else... but if it's the only way I can get to where I want to be then I have to do it :(

I have a few problems with going to see her:

1. She works full time, and only does 2 evenings a week from her home. This can be a problem as she only does maybe 2 hours each night, so I find it difficult to get there at times because I work long hours and can't always get away on time.
2. Her house is a detour on my route from work, so if I'm late I don't have time to get home, see to my dog if my other half is away, and then go back to her house. I have somebody to take my dog out in the day, but on winter nights I can't also expect them to take her out when I'm going to be even later home from work
3. She runs open house rather than 1-2-1 consultations, which is great for the social aspect, but if there is anything I need to discuss there are always people milling around. If I put weight on, it's not possible to just sit and talk about why it happened without others arriving for their appointments.

I'm currently on a break from seeing her - I'm just getting back on plan after an op and am using up leftover packs, but I need to make my decision as I'll be running out after next week.

I've never been to another consultant, so I don't know if I have unrealistic expectations. Basically I'd like somebody who can be more flexible with appointments, and who can give me 1-2-1 time. I don't want the LL style navel gazing, but at times I do need more support than I seem to get.

Any advice gratefully received :)

i would say you need to do what is best for you.
if you are not getting what you need fom her then you will find it
harder to succeed and more likely to fail or keep having restarts.
Sure she is a wonderful CDC and you can recommend her to others
that would suit her style, but it is ur life and body. its not personal
against her. i am sure she will understand.
Dont feel guilty, feel positive that you know what you need and you
know you need to change your situation in order for this diet to
have its desired effect.
Good luck.
Dee. xx

I agree, do what's best for you. To be honest, I would only to a consultant who did one-to-one appointments.

Explain to her exactly what you've said here; that although you appreciate the help she has given you before her service is not suiting your needs now. She is a professional (and not a personal friend) providing a service and therefore she should understand. If she doesn't then you are better off out anyway.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice ladies, I've been on the Cambridge website and found a new consultant who lives in my village.

I mailed her earlier tonight, explaining the situation, and she's already mailed back to say that she can work with virtually any time and only does 1-2-1 consultations. She seems nice, so I've asked for an appointment to go see her as she can't live more than 5 mins from me, and if everything goes OK I'll stick with her from now on.

I have mailed my old consultant to explain that I'm finding it difficult with the hours we both work etc, but I think that regardless of her response it's time for me to find somebody closer to home.
