Any bakers out there???
i'm a hobby baker, and have baked a coffee and walnut layer cake (nigella), however it has a bitter taste to it, wondering if anyone can explain why my cake would have a bitterness???

thanks, x

Well both coffee an walnuts can be bitter so maybe too much of one or the walnuts were a bit stale? The skins get very bitter as they dry out?

i love baking. i get more joy out of it when i can't eat it.

I grew up in my grandma's kitchen, and am a very keen baker. My only problem has been making cherry cake, which I've never managed to get right. Usual problem that many have, in that my cherries always sink to the bottom.

I love cherry cake and have a lovely recipe in A World of Cake (by Krystina Castella) which always works for me :)

I love baking too, and cake decorating but find it so much more satisfying to watch other people eat my cakes :)

Hi there

What coffee did you use? only I always use good ole CAMP liquid and find it isn't bitter -I think I use that as my mum and gran always did...

oooh and as for the cherries, probably a silly question but do you wash, dry and dust your cherries in flour before adding?

ooh good advice about the cherries! xxx
